I'm surprised Texas took Ragone..the drafting of Henson was really low-risk, it was a supplemental pick, so if it works out great, if not they could trade him to someone who thinks they have a better chance.
I'm surprised the Giants (my favorite team) didn't go for another O-lineman with so many of their guys departing after last year. Joseph could be a good D-lineman, but he'll have to wait a year at least to start with Keith Hamilton on the line.
We'll see I guess.

Just once, Id like to go into a bar in Texas and loudly proclaim: 'Yeah, I think on a good day that Simms would destroy Applewhite if they played each other.'
Then Id pounce into the getaway car with the engine still running and not stop til I hit Oklahoma...

uhhh . . . didn't get what they need?
While Travis Henry had a decent season statistically, he's not the long-term answer in the eyes of the team - that's been made clear. McGahee was, far and away, the best running back in the draft - it's a worthwhile gamble, and when better to gamble than when you have a guy who can produce as a placeholder?
Also - the Bills got what they needed; Chris Kelsay at end in the 2nd, an ILB in the 3rd, and Sam Aiken in the 4th (who charted MUCH higher) - it sounds like a good draft to me.
As far as shitty drafts go, my 'sleeper' team for crappy drafting this season is the Texans. Andre Johnson might end up solid, but Bennie Joppru in the 2nd and Dave Raggone in the 3rd? Talk about drafting away from need. Add to that Antwan Peak being overdrafted, and only taking one OL in the first 6 rounds (and only 2 total), and I'm thinking this one will be more bust than boom for the boys in Houston.
Although I like the flier they took on Drew Henson - he's decidedly NOT a baseball player, it's a compensatory pick, and they can flip the rights to him for a much higher pick at a later time. Good move, much better than taking a decidedly average Raggone.

Sorry, but I think teams with abysmal defenses should draft defensive players first and foremost. With an offense like Buffalo's, which should only maybe need a new #2 receiver, I just think McGahee is too much of an if. Just my opinion. Remember, Ki-Jana Carter was supposed to make a 'speedy recovery' too, but that injury left a question mark over his head that followed him his entire short-ass career. I just think that McGahee isnt stable enough of a second round pick (combine workouts can be deceptive), and I hope he proves me wrong.

I agree with your risk assessment, I guess - I think hindsight will dictate how this is viewed.
Remember, though, that the Bills did a good job of filling some holes with free agents, and by the 23rd pick most of the 'impact' players at defensive positions they needed were taken (specifically the top DTs and Ss). Why draft Boss Bailey, for instance, when you just paid big money to Takeo Spikes, who Bailey might someday become?
I guess I just don't see the Bills as being as screwed on defense as most do, and so thus their draft strategy didn't seem as poor to me.
