Question: If I am using Kazaa, do folks from Kazaa Lite have access to me and vice versa?

I am going to download Kazaa Lite tonight though.

Question about Kazaa

Can people get into your shared folder and mess up the songs that you download?

Only if you give them certain read/write rights.

Good idea is to have the shared folder set with read only permissions -- people can view and download files but cannot upload to or modify any files. For most people, it's no big deal -- only the most determined cracker would find a way around.

I have something called the K-Lite Codec Pack...it sets you as a SuperUser and takes away all the dumb popups and ads. I haven't had a single problem with KLite because I've had this pack the whole time.

Talking HOW TO GET RID OF THE ANNOYING MESSENGER POPUPS

You can get rid of the messenger popups without downloading a new version of Kazaa. I'm assuming you are running Windows XP most likely. To get rid of the pop ups, hit:

Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Services (Shortcut)

Here a whole bunch of services that are local are in the new window. They should be in alphabetical order. Scroll down to Messenger and right-click on it. Highlight and click Properties . In this window on the "General" tab, there's a drop-down box next to "Startup Type" and here just change it from Automatic or Manual to Disabled and then click Apply then finally click Okay and you should not have any more Messenger pop up ads, trying to sell you a Messenger Blocker program for $30 when you can easily do it yourself with these instructions.

yea, i was gonna post a bit on disabling messenger service, , but most people don't like to mess with windows settings. I don't think these messenger pop-ups are coming from the program, it could just be your ip address is being hit more often because you connect to the kazaa network. I get stupid ads popping up all the time, i just ignore them. I should install that firewall software, but I'm lazy. Eh, kazaa lite is fun for simple things, emule does a better job IMO.

Kazaa sucks. I had it very briefly and didn't like it. Everyone should check out WinMx (www.winmx.com). It doesn't eat all your bandwith space like Kazaa (at least not to my knowledge) and there are no annoying pop up boxes. WinMx is actually the most like Napster to me. *Sigh* I miss Napster...
