We can call ritual on anyone lower than us, but not in our class. But we only use it in cases that we need to get that sister to listen to us (someone being a complete a$$ and unPhiSig like, drunk and not listening, etc) Sometimes we will do it jokingly - but ONLY if the other person knows were joking around.

Yeah, we have pin rules too. Mostly used if there's a pin higher than you in a chair you want, or to make someone get another beer for the cooler or somethin like that.

You can't call it on your pledge bros here either. It really sucked because when i pledged i had a really rough semester and ended up with the lowest grades in my pledge class, hence i was assigned highest pin. So for a whole semester i had the highest pin in the frat, it was almost like bein a pledge all over. Although, now i'm halfway up the list and pull pin like it's goin outta style.

Our pins are just our chapter designation (Kappa Sigma) and then the number of initiate into our chapter we were. I usually 'tag' my stuff with my pin #, so guys know who's it is, but people outside our chapter think we're Kappa Sigs if they see it.

oh, and if y'all haven't guessed, whenever we send emails down our chapter listserve, we sign it with our pin numbers. that's where i got the idea for my sig line.

We call it Ritual since it's by our chapter ritual number, which we hold in very high regard in my chapter, as you notice I use it in my GC handle. It's for smaller stuff, usually can't be called on your pledge class and you can always deny it if you really object to it or think it was out of line. I guess this only works for orgs that assign numbers a certain way. Like ours is final test score order and then the number of no votes you get for your second bid. I know some orgs jsut give ritual numbers by alphabetical order in a pledge class.

Oh, and we also have something called degree, along the same lines only it goes by your degree in the brotherhood. We have 6 degrees, 1st is the undergrad initiate, 2nd are those elected to symbolic office(E-Board), 3rd are alumni members initiated as undergrads, 4th are those oppointed to positions by Grand Council or Grand President, 5th those Elected to Grand Council, and 6th are All of the Grand Presidents. We use degree only with the first 3.

Heh..my boyfriend's fraternity hollers out "Low Scroll", basically the same thing you all are talking about It gets pretty interesting that's for sure. There are some rules to it, but I'm not sure what they all are. I know one is that you can't low scroll someone in you pledge class....that's all I can remember for now.

I am a 4th Degree Brother since I was a Chapter Advisor. I got my medallion at Leadership Convention in 1998. My pin # is 2021, but I think because we were an Epsilon chapter we started over at 2000. I know we had 700+ alumni, but there was no way we had over 2000+ before my initiation, so I think they started all of the Epsilon chapters over at 2000 after the merger in '85. Consequently I am the 21st initiate of my chapter after the Phi Sigma Epsilon-Phi Sigma Kappa merger.

But it would be cool if we did, since my pin number (within my chapter) would be 2...

I have never heard of this, but it sounds a little silly. Our pin numbers are assigned (within pledge class) by alpha order. It sounds to me like just like older members power tripping.

BSU: were you chapter advisor at Ball State? Our chapter advisor is one of our alumni from here at clarion. We have a few 4th degree brothers but most of them are of the older group so they just show up for a weekend to act like college kids again.

Do you know how many Epsilon Chapters actually mergered? I know 7 went off and formed Phi Sigma Phi and at my school half of them merged and the other half formed a Phi Sigma which was a local.

This happens in all Phi Delta Theta chapters. Every man has a "Bond" number. So you can call "bond" on anyone with a higher number than you are. It is only for simple things and you can't do it within your own pledge class.

our chapter (and just about all beta chapters in some way or another) uses the the roll number as a standard. you can pull seniority on anyone who has a higher number than you although it rarely is used within the same pledge class. typically this is done by seniors or juniors to freshman pledges and new initiates. we also have something called "knoxing" which follows the same system. If a brother with a lower roll number knox's another brother, then the guy who got knox'd has to chug his drink immediately.

Yes, Beta's do have and use Roll Numbers. I think that within Beta at least, it is used in fun ways like getting someone to shut up. You know, when a brother is rambling on for minutes on end, all you say is "Hey punkass, whats your roll number? Yeah, thats what I thought, sit your ass down". I rarely see it get as far as making someone give you their seat or fetching food for them. Its mainly just goofy shit. But then again, thats my chapter.

That's a pretty sweet # though.

When most people are up in the 1000's at your national events, it is fun to have a single digit number.
