Kilo:
What school are you at? What is your campus like?
Why is the Greek community so small? Will your administration allow only one more national org on? Is this a local that wishes to become a national, or a cold start up? Answers to these questions would certainly clairify the situation.

ktsnake.
I totally agree with you!
We have LXA, SX, PKA, SPE, PSK, and STG!
I would like to see nay strong International Greek Org come on Campus!
I would especially like to see the NPC's expand as we only have 3, ASA, AGD, and SSS!
It is and has been a tuff Greek Campus but if there were more HE/SHES, the Campus would see more of Greeks, If they got along for Crying out loud and work together!

When looking at expansion you have to guage the groups ability to fully integrate into the greek community at the perspective school and how the addition of that voice will help to mold the student body oppinion of greek life. One of the things that I would say that I don't know the perspective campus that you are on but make sure one, there is a strong graduate base to which these young men can prosper; two look at the "package" that their organization is willing to do is it they will help them on recruitment the first year, designing programs, ensuring a strong base, how many men do they expect to found this chapter etc, and finally what is the opionion of the other greek organizations are they inviting a new GLO because they want to increase the % of greek on campus simply in number but there exists a quality issue as well. I find it dificult to decide without knowing what the state of greek affairs are on this campus and thus have chose to leave general guidelines above that need to be carefully explored.

I would agree that Beta should be a strong candidate, not because I'm in Beta, but because of the success in colonizing we have had over the past five years since the Men of Principle initiative was begun.
Basically the MOP Initiative is a partnership between the chapter, the General Fraternity, and area alumni to do whatever possible to create success. I know that colonizations at big greek schools have yielded as many as 55 founding fathers. This occurred at Oklahoma State. Recent colonization efforts at Columbia pledged 36 founding fathers.
I can't find numbers for other colonizations but I'm willing to bet that they are similar.
This is not to say the others would not be similarily successful, but the experience of successful colonizations can't be ignored.
Good luck in choosing your next organization!!!

From what I know, Beta Theta Pi and Sigma Chi are the two strongest candidates on that list, but I have to agree with the general concensus on this one that there's more info needed. Beta and Sigs are two powerhouses, but at a smaller campus that may not be necessarily the best option. Sigma Chi does not found, for example, if they do not have at least 60 men interested. Also, maybe DU has a very strong alum base in the area while Sigs or Betas to not? There are so many different things to look at.

I would pick any of the fraternities except for Phi Sigma Kappa. I have not had good experiences with that fraternity. I'm not saying all chapters are alike, but I find that a lot of things went "unchecked" and "uncorrected" on my campus and I wouldn't think that would be a good reflection of the GLO's HQ. But, they threw one hell of a party. I've heard their chapter is gone now anyway.

I would pick Sigma Chi, they seem to have great alum support up here in Canada. Beta Theta Pi would be my second choice.

Beta,
Been on two different campuses both without Beta. I heard the chapter at Texas Tech is pretty awesome.

Our Texas Tech Chapter is one of our best chapters, always are kicking butt on campus, always winning awards.
Beta is obvously my choice, but I say ANY expansion is good. Even if it is Sigma Chi. ha ha

At my school, Sigma Chi was the most involved of the fraternities on your list in campus activities, philanthropy, and had the some of the biggest alumni support. They are very popular in Florida. I don't know if it is the same in your state or school.

Sigma Chi here is mainly guys who plan on going into law school or at least into business. They serve on fraternity council, have top grades, and still throw great parties.
