Why has everyone been so hostile this week?

I just want people to know that it is highly important that anything dealing with HBCU's is positive---article or not. It seems that the whole focus about why HBCU's were founded in the first place is lost ----which is to continue higher (equal) education for all people. The effects that the media has on HBCU's is heightened and detrimental to the establishment that our forefathers and mothers worked so hard for. Quality education is a common goal for any school beit a school in urban NY or rural MS. However, when articles such as these are published it lures the high school graduate or transfer student away and institutes stereotypical thinking about the south or even HBCUs.

As for rq44, thanks for the history lesson on the term "yank". While you were looking that up, did you bother to do a history lesson on the issues that I have mentioned in the previous post. Obviously not, because you are tooooo concerned with a BS term like "yank" instead of what this thread is about. Now if you want to know how I feel about the term "yank" YOU need to look and read previous post. Honestly, I could give two sh*ts about a menial word like "yank". I will not continue to banter back and forth with you about this stupid a#% topic ( the word yank). Like I said before it was a sarcastic play on words but if you still have a problem and if you want to talk about it PM ME!

Is anyone else grasping the point I am trying to make? All I'm trying to say is that broadbased assumptions about a group of individuals are never safe to make.

If I am an incoming college freshman and assume that HBCU's offer a sub-standard education based on this article, I am wrong. And I have cut myself off from a wonderful potential experience.

If you assume that I know nothing about the issues faced by HBCU's, you are wrong. And you have alienated someone who agrees with you wholeheartedly on the point you are trying to make regarding the negative effects that the media has on HBCU's.

If I assume that you mean the term "yank" in the offensive manner in which it is most commonly used, then I become offended and forget to tell you that I agree with the point you originally intended to make.

If you assume that I know that you meant the term "yank" sarcastically, then you inadvertantly offended me.

Again, broadbased assumptions from anyone lead to problems. That's all I'm trying to say.

I agree that positive things need to be said when there are positive things to say. It is not reasonable to expect that, because there have been too many negatives in the past, there should be no negatives in the future whether they are valid or not. That certainly does nothing to even the playing field.
