We had a luau/beach date function last year and the backs of the shirts had a picture of a palm tree. Underneath it said "We have our date, we have our lei, lets dance the night away" It was pretty cute, and everone got a plastic lei when they came in. We also ordered straw hats, and it was really cute..

It was a suggestion, and a sincere one. Not a declaration of war.

I think I'll stay out of any "multicultural" discussions from this point on. The hostility is unwarranted and life is too short.

nah, no offense taken. just a statement, i don't think i'd like it if a frat come up to my organization (the Filipino group, not my fraternity) saying they were throwing a rice (or something along those lines) party.

a tradition here used to be Kamanawannaleiya (sp?) the local and sig chi revived it last year and no one was offended. We also had a luau around then too (yes we actually have a huge hawaiian population here) Keep it tasteful and have fun, just don't be tacky. and if someone will be offended, back down. there is nothing wrong with a beach party.

Have it be a camp out

and have the slogan say: Pitch a tent and get leied.

And by the way, political correctness is just that-political. This is America and last I checked, even if it was offensive, I still have the RIGHT to say it. I am TOTALLY offended by the idiots that posted about the pimps & hos party and the porn star parties several posts ago, but you know what-I just don't attend those that offend me. I will fight to the death for the right of those idiots to say it & have it however.

At Sam Houston State we have a year end Beach party called the "Big Bamboo Bash" and this year i made the shirts. It was a Survivor logo which i replaced Survivor with Big bamboo bash and the outlast, out wit, out play, with Out party, out drink, pass out. We always have a good time with it to end the year.

i did a search on your colors: you could call it Scarlet & Green hawaii (and have fake flowers that are scarlet and green) alot of hawaiian flowers are like that especially birds of paradise, etc, or Blue Hawaii (and play some elvis music). Let's Go Hawaii sounds good.....I am not pleased with the "get leid" thing

You could do "Alpha Chis in Paradise" and have a sort of Jimmy Buffett theme. Or "Sunset Bash", and have it based on a tropical sunset type thing. Or "Deserted Island"... there's lots of things you can do that have a tropical, beachy feel to them without specifically being raunchy or having a luau theme.

we have a luau every year, and this year our slogan was "as close to paradise as it gets" or something like that.
