Semiotics is fun huh kids?

Perhaps if you hang around a little, you'll learn a little about the histories of our respective organizations, and see that any references to Greek history are usually allusions to ancient Greek mythology, and aren't used in slanderous ways at all - they are used as the principles of foundation for an organization. This is no worse than, say, naming your company "Oracle Microsystems" or the like.

It's tough to 'steal' culture - you can borrow, transfer, and fuse with other cultures, but culture isn't a possession. It is intended by its very nature to be shared - so be happy that this is happening.

Who knows, you might even make a friend around here - I hear Thrillhouse is on the prowl for a new chick, so if you're under the age of 14, drop him a line

Andriana Greek,
I hope that you come back and read this thread and what Pktkkg
has said in response because it eloquently explains everything. My chapter advisor is Greek as are two of our members. I don't think they would've joined and stuck with an organization if they saw the fact that we use greek letters to name our orgs. as "stealing" from the greek culture or somehow dissing it.

P.S. Yes, I know where Greece is, and have been there

Greek history is very interesting and has played large roles in our soceity. Please realize that greek letter orgs are not to trash greece but to keep it's rich history alive. It is very unfair to call them "stupid". Our fraternities and sororities mean so much to so many of us.

you can get over it now...you can get over later...but I urge you to get over it....

by the way, do you want to do some research and find the TRUE origin of many of the symbols we use?
