I'd like to see how a HBCU drumline (or any college drumline for that matter) matched up against a DCI drumline, say maybe against the Cadets or the Devs.

On a drum corps forum I used to post on, they said that while the tricks were good in drumline, often times the heights of the sticks and other techniques were off.

But I'm a wind player so I can't say they're right or wrong myself.

Are you serious? How do you judge such technique in a movie? The tricks were good? The tricks were OFF THE METER!

Shots in a movie are cut to show you the details the director wants you to see...in other words, its virtually impossible to judge the heights or levels or lack of precision for that matter when you consider the focus was rarely shooting from one angle that would show a balanced picture.

Some folks will always find something bad in something that overall is good.

GO SEE THE MOVIE!!!!!!

Hey don't shoot the messenger!

And I have seen it, like I said since I know next to nothing about rudiment drumming I wouldn't say their right or not.

Either way the movie and the drumming was tight.

Seems to me that's kind of like asking how a rhythm and blues group compares with a jazz combo. They are two different styles with different techniques and results in mind, making a "match up" akin to comparing apples and oranges.

actually...

my comments were not directed towards you specifically...just those in the peanut gallery making the comments you posted. If you were not a part of the discussion, you certainly were included in my comment.

But since you have not seen the movie, you might want to check it out before you post such commentary as the one you posted.

Happy New Year All!

In that case, you are hearby sentenced to a flogging with 100 wet noodles for instigating unnecessary ridicule.

here's another plug for those who have NOT seen the movie...

Go see Drumline!

I have to agree w/ fsu24DZ about the dancing part. I thought that it was going to show a LOT of just the girls shaking this and that and I was very glad that it really focused on the drumming, the band, the main character, etc.

About the Greeks, Laila the girlfriend, was in a fictional sorority (well at least I've never heard of it). I didn't understand exactly what type of sorority it was though. Was it supposed to just be a regular glo or was it like a dance team sorority...I thought there were other members of the team in the sorority too, so that's why I was thinking it was like a dance oriented sorority. I don't know...maybe I missed something. And then I also did not see TBS in the movie but I thought I saw a girl w/ a KKI jacket on. Was that supposed to be another fictional sorority or like Kappa Kourts Inc? I think I saw another fict frat, but I can't remember. I do remember seeing one Omega in the background though.

Anyway, it was a great movie. Oh but wait, the Petey Pablo part....ummmm what the hell was he saying!?? I swear I wished there were captions during that part! lol They could've left him out or at least gotten someone we could've understood!
Kappa Kappa Iota is a real sorority with tons of chapters and is national. But for the movie (which i haven't seen) it may stand for something else.

Thanks for that BlueViolet. I had no idea it was an actual sorority (and now I see you're a member). The only instance in which I've heard of KKI was for an org called Kappa Kourts, Inc.
But yea, i have no idea in what KKI stands for in the movie. I just saw the letters on a jacket...so who knows
