In my experience, most girls aren't funny. They're only funny to other girls who aren't very bright. Stuff like "wouldn't it be funny if when we got to your car, instead of it being red, it was actually blue?" It drives me crazy when girls play the "wouldn't it be funny if..." game.

I had to go to this luncheon with all these girls that I wasn't particularly fond of and this was an actual conversation:

Girl1: My boyfriend and I blah blah blah
Girl2: OMG wouldn't it have been funny if instead of him taking you to a party last night, you would have gotten engaged?
Girl3: OMG, wouldn't it be funny if she actually WERE engaged?

I find that when I'm with my girl friends, its silly girly humor. When I'm with my guy friends, its witty, quick humor. I can spar with the best of them, too.

My boyfriend and I are *really* funny when we get on a roll. We've just developed this natural Kevin Smith -esque banter to our conversations.

I also love Mitch Hedberg...soooo funny!

You want to know what "funny" is? A bunch of over the hill "League Ladies" sans white gloves, comparing notes on their husbands... Ya Ya Sisterhood or Steel Magnolias couldn't BEGIN to do the reality of it justice!

Actually, I think Juniorgrrl has a point about humor except the example given was more like "Clueless" vs more sophisticated humor. They say some of the most intelligent people are comedians because they have to be creative, possess a quick wit and have experiences they can draw on. Much easier to pull off Drama (I've read) than comedy.

I honestly think it all boils down to the recipient of the "humor".
I prefer the British comedies, a classic example would be "Faulty Towers", to the humor of something like "American Pie". The content is important too and may have a lot to do with why guys view other guys as "funnier" than females. I LOVE a good wisecrack, but a lot of the GC ladies have had some great one liners. Some of the things that get acknowledged as humorous by the men leave me thinking-
...just not all that funny. So, IS it perspective???

I agree that not everyone has the same idea as to what is funny.

I know that I don't really like the British comedies, they are too dry. I love Friends, Gilmore Girls, and Will & Grace. My fave funny movies are History of the World, Part I, Office Space, and Auntie Mame. All of these are very different, yet I enjoy the humor. I think there are funny parts in almost every movie, but it's SO subjective...

I agree about girls in juniorgrrl's post. I think when they say "funny", they should actually be using the word "ironic", "strange", or "strange coincidence", not "funny" as a blanket word.
