Here, have a can of worms with your Thanksgiving dinner.

Seriously, fix yourself something to drink and take a look at this (long) thread: Non-social GLOs...do you honestly consider us fellow Greeks?. It's all been gone over there.

If I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure many professional GLO's do have a GPA requirement. Many honoraries have a *higher* GPA requirement.

To some 'social Greeks' the only 'true Greeks' are those in social GLOs. So if you're in a service or honor or professional, you're not a 'real Greek'. This, despite the fact that in some of these non-social GLOs you have a rituals, pledge programs, etc.

In part, this is also due to the fact that most, if not all, non-social GLOs are not members of any of the 3 national 'social GLO' inter-fraternal councils.

Please note, this is only true of SOME socials.

I never joined any social GLO. Am a member of a Service GLO. But I went thru a pledge program, rituals, etc. My GLO is a member of the Professional Fraternity Association. But because I'm not part of a social GLO, to some I'm not a 'true Greek'.

as emb said, some members of social fraternitiy/sororities believe they are the only "true" greeks, but not all social brothers/sisters believe this! in fact, many members of social fraternities & sororities also belong to professional GLO's as well as honorary GLO's.

in short, you will find some people who believe they are the only real greeks on this lovely earth, but i have met several social's that are all about the greek unity and it didn't matter if you were service, social, professional or honorary GLO member

Yes, we are frequently looked down upon. Not always, but often. I am a proud sister of SAI, and I'm just as Greek as anyone in a social GLO, but you can't convince many of it.
