Thanks so much you guys!! I have to say that while I am so excited, I'm getting somewhat overwhelmed at all the stuff that has to be done-especially when I read those timelines in the bridal mags that say, "By 8 months you should have ABC done, and in 6 months you should have XYZ done, and fall colors have to be this and that..." So, I decided to throw out the bridal mags and have my wedding anyway I want it. By the way, thanks for the book suggestion, Greeklawgirl, I think I'm heading to Barnes&Noble to buy it-I am all about saving money!!!

Ok-but now for the good part-here's how he proposed: We had gone up to the Blue Ridge mountains and were hiking in this place called Linville Falls-we come to this overlook with mountains and waterfalls in the background, and he says to me, I have to ask you a question, and I look at him, and he's reaching into his jacket with this smile on his face, and I swear I just knew. So, he gets down on one knee and opens the ring box and says will you marry me-I just started crying and saying OMG-so, he puts the ring on my finger because I can't move, and he says, Well are you going to say yes? I had completely forgotten, I was crying too much!! So of course I did, and we hugged-it was amazing. Later on he told me that he had wanted to say all this nice stuff before he popped the question but that when we got there, he was so nervous that all he could think of to say was will you marry me.

Ok-so here's what the ring looks like -it's in a platinum setting with a round cut diamond in the center, and a round cut yellow sapphire sidestone on each side. I can't stop looking at it!!!

Your comment about throwing out the bridal magazines is exactly right. They're great for initial ideas and inspiration, but they will drive you crazy with the "need" to have a "perfect" wedding. Midway through planning, I stopped reading everything but Martha Stewart weddings...they have the most beautiful stuff but DON'T have the cheesy articles found in Modern Bride, etc.. Another tip is to look through foreign bridal magazines. If you can't get them where you live, you might be able to order them through Amazon. This way, you won't be tortured by the articles (unless you know the language) but more importantly, you'll get lots of original ideas not replicated by millions of other brides in our country. If I can remember the name of the ones I looked at, I'll post here.

As for the timeline - don't worry about it. We got engaged in late December and married in early September...it was plenty of time! Your wedding will be awesome!

Congratulations!! I wish you all the best.

I agree with throwing out the bridal magazines - I never bought a single one. The bridal magazines tell you all about how to throw the "perfect wedding" - spend more than some people's annual salary on a dress you'll wear only once, go and book the glitziest ballroom in town, lobster and filet mignon at the reception, and what do you mean you're not having a butterfly release as you walk out of the church? The bridal magazines are supported by their advertisers - the very people who want to sell you the expensive dress, meal, and butterflies.

Oh, and look out for shady vendors who jack up the price as soon as you mention the "W" word. We booked limos to take us and our wedding party back and forth from wedding to reception. We were quoted a not unreasonable price. Then they said "By the way, what is this for?" As soon as we said "A wedding" they said "Ohhhh, let me tell you about our wedding package!" which was essentially the same exact thing, but at twice the price.

Sorry, I guess the cynic in me came out The important thing is, congratulations!
