But hey, $5 or $10 is more important to some people I guess . . .

Why, because, if they are stilll hanging out with the Chapter, they are getting the benefits but not paying which means!?????????

It cost each member in goodstanding that much more to do something or Pay The Damn Bills!

Brotherhood doesn't have a pricetag . . .

Granted, you don't want inactive members taking advantage of the money the actives spend on events - however, things like formal, or ritual events, or extremely special social events (say, Gift-giving or etc) probably could transcend this sort of monetary concern. It's always good to see everyone at these sort of events.

Or maybe not - depends on your particular brother/sisterhood.

I don't think deaffiliated members should be allowed at any type of ritual event.

Also, some of you are lumping alumni into this conversation and I really think there is a difference between alums attending events and deaffiliated members attending events.

i totally agree. alumni are a completely separate thing. they did pay their dues the whole time they were there and will probably end up donating to the sorority/fraternity later on in life.

as for de-activated/de-affiliated members, i say it again, they should not be allowed to attend social, ritual, or any type of event. if they couldn't pay their dues, that's a shame and at least with my sorority and i know with some others, you can get financial help paying your dues. so don't sit back and be lazy about it, if you are having trouble paying dues, find out if there is a way of getting financial assistance. unless you just don't want to put that kind of effort into it, which can mean you don't really want to be active anyways.

in my personal experiences, it is usually not a financial matter that causes someone to deactive/deaffiliate. it's usually social discord between that person and another member. and ultimately it is their choice to separate themselves from the chapter. and usually they don't want to socialize with the chapter anymore.

brotherhood and sisterhood don't have a price, but it does require some sort of desire to be a sister or a brother.
