I know for my SCUBA mask I rub the inside really good with a little toothpaste and some water, then rinse well. You should do it 3 times the night before you dive the next day. It removes the oils that accumulate on the lenses and cause fogging.
Ahh, I thought you smeared the toothpaste onto the lenses and left it there. I didn't know you used it as a cleaning agent. Thanks.
