ignore the facts! taht's right! best way to learn! damn i wish i thoughta that!
my brother joined a frat and it messed him up more than my car messes me up (none). frats and sororities encourage underage drinking and drugs. this is much more dangerous than modifying a car. however if you want to argue about this make it a different topic. i'm not here to argue about that, i'm here to educate the misinformed of the REAL world of car enthusiasts. the Fast and the Furious was not reality. if hollywood was reality, then i'm sure all you frat guys bang 14year olds liek john belushi did, right? yeah. i thought so.
to each his own.. but be mature about it..
like i said think before responding. i personally plan on loitering here fore a while to make sure this gets understood. if you are too immature to participate in the conversation then do the rest of us a favor and stay out. this is a serious topic that needs to be understood by all. hopefully there are engouh of you out there mature enough to finish the conversation..
i really tried to be as respectful as i could with my response. hopefully the rest of the people of your communnity are more mature than their moderator. the way it is right now, even the riceboys we both make fun of would have too much fun with you guy's comments.
my point is, have a real conversation. othwerwise, i'm gonna eat this post for lunch.

I bet you guys are in a fraternity and probably regulars just trying to cause trouble. Why else would some body that is not in a fraternity happen to see this site talking about those ugly Honda street racers randomly. I really doubt you supposenly just watched the sight being a non greek waiting for the one day that somebody post about illegal stret racing. Street racing is ilegal for a reason and if I saw anyone do it I would cll the police in a second. Maybe its time to do an ip match up and see where you two that registered about the same time at.

you make me laugh. i am in no way associated with a frat and i do not wish to be. a friend of mine's ex told me friend who in turn told several of his friends (the numerous car enthusiasts you see who have responded). as for an "ip match up" lol i won't even tuoch that joke. i am cisco certified and i wil tell you right now you're not going ot find anything from that unless you are government. if you must know i am at UVA as a mechanical engineering major w/ a minor in biomed (as premed).
however staying on the topic i hope to god you would at least STOP to call the police. if you make that call while driving down the road, you are being more reckless than the "racers". at least they're probaly watching the road and paying attention...
please give a mature response or expect it to be torn apart and laughed hysterrically at.. it's not that much to ask. the purpose of use coming here was to help the misinformed. right now you guys sound funnier than the news. if you wanto complain about something you at least need to know SOMETHING about what you are complaining about.
as for "if i saw anyone do it", you won't ever see a real streetrace unless you are involved in it in some way. you may see people being idiots on the raod, but that doesn't mean they are "streetracing". you all seem to be confusing two completely and unrelated things.

Oh I am so wrong your cars are so cool let me worship you. What a dork having to come to a site for greeks to defend your stupid cars that none of us really car about and are not impressed about.
And who say I have to be driving to see a street race. Even if I was driving I could pull over and call so that argument is out the window.

Sorry guys-this is my bad. I showed my ex this post to get his reaction to it. He in turn posted on the site he goes too. Again sorry. We have frequent discussions about street racing and cars. I'm not into it, but he is, but thats cool for him. Anyway, let me try to put across my and probably some others opinions on this topic. Oh and I have read machv (the board they are from), so don't think I don't know what I'm talking about.
We think that everybody that mods their cars are bad because they will street race, etc. And as HighPsi Tsi Guy said all frats and sororitys encourage underage drinking and drugs. Both are false...why? Because neither side has all the info. We get all our information from the news and maybe from what one person has gone through. Please dont believe every drunken frat story is common throughout the entire greek community and please don't believe that just because someone mods their car they will street race and act irresponsibly.
Now for my opinion on street racing and modifications. Alright-I may bitch to "MrKite50" about cars and other mods he does to his car, but ultimately its his thing, just like the Alpha Xi Delta is my thing. I have no right to make him stop, especially since we aren't together anymore which is another story entirely. But as for the idiots that do severe street racing (not talking about "punching it for a second"), if it is done on a public road where other traffic is being held, then it is irresponsible and just plain selfish. Sorry, there is no responsible street racing (that was pointed out on machv). But again, my opinion.
Now I am sorry that my ex had to get everybody all riled up. Let's all go back to our respective boards and enjoy our pastimes. We don't need arguements on our board and I'm sure your mods don't want it either. Oh and just to point out something-we are not kids. There are many older and wiser greeks on here too, so again, don't make some equal all. Ok, geez that was long. PM me if you need to speak with me furthur, otherwise-peace out

Okay, I know that MuAZD cleared this up for us, and I do not want to fight. I just want to make a general comment -- drinking and drugs are not "frat/sorority kind of stuff," they are "college kid kind of stuff." I get so mad when people talk about alcohol, drugs and rape being problems with fraternity boys... girls can just as easily get GHBed or raped at a random house party, those just don't end up in the news.
Okay, sorry... just a pet peeve of mine.

thank you you seem to be the only mature person on here. you seem to somewhat have a grasp of what is going on much better than the rest of you. i'm sure there are frats and sororities that don't fin in my stereotype of them, but i have yet to actually find one.
i could argue with you on the "there is no responsible streetracing" but it seems pointless as we have two different definitions between us as streetracing. yes, streetracing in the sense that you think of in is bad, and irrisponsible, and should be stopped. those are the idiots that give the rest of the enthusiasts a bad name. i would argue that organized street races can be responsible but that is a whole different arguement and not really needed here.

The difference is though that GLO's are not INHERENTLY dangerous. To join a fraternity or sorority does not mean that you are putting yourself at risk. In many cases the fact that there are so many brothers/sisters that have your back you are actually safer than not being with a GLO.
Not so for street racing. And when I say STREET I mean out on public streets. What you do on a track is your own business. You accept the risk there without passing it on to others without their permission. As for racing on interstates, city streets, whatever... No matter how abandoned you THINK they are is not only inconsiderate to the safety of others but it should be a serious criminal offense (in fact reckless driving, etc are illegal but I'm thinking of felony level offense).
It is your "thing" so long as it does not put others in danger. Similar to having a non-smoking section at the restaurant. It is a nonsmoker's right not to be endangered by being forced to inhale someone's cigarette smoke. It is also their right not to be run over by an out of control street racer.
I find it to be the height of selfishness to claim that endangering other people's lives so you can be entertained is your 'thing' and you have a right to do it.

Hmm...ktsnake, not sure if your post was directed at me or not. But by his "thing" I meant spending money to modify his car. He doesn't street race, which begs the question, why put all the stuff in your car. But again, as long as he isn't using it irresponsibly, its hard for anyone to tell him not to. Hope that clears things up.

i "put all the stuff in my car" mainly because i enjoy working on my car, and enjoy driving it. to me, a more powerful car and a car tweaked to my preference is more fun to drive than a plain old car in stock form. i personally take it to the track for a real race, and only then i do it mainly for the purpose of comparrison to see the results of my work more than anything else.
the reason i commented here in the first place is to point out that you all are attacking the wrong people. the cars you see wrecked on the news, next time you see it, pay attention to what kind of cars they are. you will find that the cars wrecked on the news are 99% of the time, a stock 4 door sedan of some type.. corrolla, accord, altima, etc.. stock and unmodified.. and it sually happens on a turn or something like that... these are the dangerous people.. they do not know how to control themsekvelves in a car. most of us who modify are cars (and yes i say MOST for a reason, not all) love are cars and don't do anything stupid like that. we know how to drive our cars and know the limitations, and that is why you won't see a wrecked 400 horsepower DSM or a slvia conversion 240sx, or a turbo motorswapped honda, or a 67 camaro with a supercharged v8 wrecked on the news.
the people you see wrecked on the news due to "street racing" are people who take mommy's gocery getter out on the highway and floor it for 5 miles next to hteir friend whoss done the same. this is not racing, it is asking for death.

I agree with ktsnake on this. Personally, I don't care how many modifications someone puts on his/her vehicle as long as that vehicle isn't involved in illegal street racing. Truth be told, I really don't like all the modifications that people put on their cars these days -- it's just not my style and I think it's a waste of money that could be better spent elsewhere. However, that's just my opinion, just as a couple of other people on here have said that fraternities and sororities are not their style. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
The problem comes in when some of these people endanger the lives of others by conducting illegal races on public streets. If they want to race on a track, then by all means let them do it. Keep it regulated so that there is less chance of someone being injured.
I don't think anyone in this thread was trying to say that all people who modify their cars are bad or that all people who enjoy racing their cars are bad. It's the people who race their cars on public streets with a blatant disregard for the lives of innocent drivers or pedestrians nearby who are giving a bad name to the rest of the race enthusiasts.
Hope this clears things up a little.

the reason all of us "street racers" are replying to this is because someone from our board uses this board and thought we might be interested
i agree street racing is bad but come on.all of you saying that we do this because of the fast and the furious are being dumb.they made that movie because of us.not the other way around.its also a lot more than just racing your car everywhere.its a hobby and some people put a lot of time into these machines.whereas some of you put a lot of time drinking.i think it was best put when someone said do your homework before you reply.dont knock it until you know exactly what goes on

Inflamatory, anti-greek comments aside, I can see what HighPSI TSi Guy is saying. Someone just died in a the suburb I live in last week. Turns out, one guy went into the oncoming traffic lane to get beside his friend just to mess with him. Ended up slamming head on into another car and killing the driver. Now, both of them are being charged with streetracing, manslaughter, etc. That was just idiotic.. Unfortunate, but idiotic.
This suburb I live in is full of bored kids in modified cars. I used to work the second shift at my temp job so I'd have to drive about 50 blocks up this one street at midnight on Friday and Saturday nights. I was always anxious to get home so I'd kinda punch the gas petal away from every stoplight. Inevitably, I'd end up next to a racer at a stoplight who thought that meant I wanted to 'play.' I didn't want to 'play' I wanted to go home. That being said, these guys who were doing this were never dangerous, never any more in excess of the speed limit as anyone else. They just wanted to toy with some girl in a Celica who likes to stomp on her gas petal. These kids are annoying as all hell but I can see the difference between him and the kids who killed someone.

Of course there's a difference... I don't think anyone is agreeing that it is ALWAYS bad. I think where we come into conflict is when it endangers others. If your car is not street legal you should not have it on the street. It is not your right to drive... it is a privlige. One which can and should be revoked when you break the law.
As for track racing I think that's just fine. Presumably you know what's going on and aren't going to try anything stupid. And as for certain true enthusiasts of this hobby I don't think anyone's knocking you. I think you'll find that we all mutually dislike the HS kids with the tripped out hondas bought with daddy's money.
