I thought the movie wasn't that great. The small town reminded me of my hometown, but the one in the movie is a little smaller.

There REALLY is a Pigeon Creek, AL and a Greenville, AL. They are about an hour south of Montgomery. They are in Butler County off of I- 65. Weather or not the movie was filmed there, I don't know. I liked the movie. It wasn't the best movie I've seen, but it was'nt the worse one either. Though it appeared to make fun of southerners, in the end it made the south actually look good. Many Alabama refrences: Piggly Wiggly (a real grocery store chain), the dogs are "Bear" and "Bryant, the husband wants to move to Tuscaloosa and the divorce attorney's office is in Birmingham! You can see that on the envelope that Melanie takes to the post office.

Arrow Better late than never...

So I got roped into seeing it last night, and it wasnt that bad. It was cool for a chick flick. The funny part: being in the south I can see traits of quite a few people I know some of the characters. There were a few parts where it was over the top, but it was a cool way to forget about work and such for a few hours.

I saw it with my girlfriend and neither one of us liked it. She's typically one to like chick flicks (and I'm not).. Just seemed a bit too Hollywood.

Aw, you guys, I thought it was cute! My boyfriend didn't complain too much about it either, so I guess he liked it too. The town in Alabama reminded me of where I'm from...

I finally saw it last night, lol! My hubby wasn't going to watch the whole thing but he did cause it both reminded us of people and homes/lakes/towns we know here in the South. Except I don't think they mentioned sweet tea and grits.

Lisa, I didn't get the references to Bear and Bryant, lol. I thought that Bryant was a stupd name for a dog, lol.

BTW, I love Jean Smart and hope she does more movies.

I love that movie so much. My gal pal from SC and I saw it last semester and we just had the best time. I guess for me, I understand that pull between the glamour of being up North, in the big city and everyting and then the down home comfort of being back where you grew up with County boys and people who know everything you've done and love you anyway--mostly because they did the stuff with you! And yes, the New York boy had me at Tiffany's.

My boy, good little Yank that he is from New Jersey, suffered through it, and then bought me the DVD for my birthday. He understands that while he plans to take me back to New Jersey with him, I'll always be a little Southern girl.

What is baloney cake? I've been watching this movie a lot cause it's the only thing on ppv late at night. Everytime I see the part when she tells her parents she's getting married and her dad asks her mom to get the baloney cake out of the icebox I just want to know what it is and why it's called baloney cake.
