Thanks for all the replies. I too am sorry for what you lost or had taken from you. I get it, and it's comforting that others can understand it's not "just a pin".
I wanted to wear the second badge I got online as a pendant around my neck (like Titchou does - her stolen badge sounded gorgeous!) and wear my original badge on clothing as usual.
The police didn't give me any specific suggestions on how to find it, but they DID tell me if I saw it online or in a pawn shop to notify them right away and to NOT tell the person selling it. They said items tend to mysteriously disappear if the seller finds out they might be stolen, before the police can get involved. They also mentioned the person selling it isn't necessarily the person who stole it. It could be a friend with online access, etc.
I totally agree with thetalady that it's really just a symbol. In fact, I think Tri Delta's founder has a quote about it being a symbol. It's not the most important thing about my membership, but I still feel naked without it.

My other 2 room mates also discovered items missing after "brother" visited so we knew without a shadow of a doubt. He was the only stranger that spent the night or had access to all of our bedrooms at the condo. We kicked his brother out shortly thereafter.

I keep my badge along with my four other rescue badges locked in a safe in my house along with my other jewelry that I'm not wearing... I would be so upset if any of them were stolen! So sorry this happened to you, Lake.

I've always wondered why Greek pins got stolen, aside from collectors or anti Greek troublemakers. Can they really be sold or pawned for significant "meltdown" value? I remember seeing a lot of gold and jewel encrusted pins and badges in my time, but had always figured they were too small to be melted or picked apart to be worth anyone's time. But maybe I'm way off base... I always thought Greek pins were items where the sentimental worth far far exceeds the items material worth.
Good luck tracking down your badge! I hope it turns up somewhere soon.

Today, gold is worth $40.54 a gram, or $1,420 an ounce. Steal a handful of gold items, and you might get enough to buy a hit of meth. I'm sure you've seen ads from pawn shops and jewelry stores touting how they'll buy gold.
Of course, prices have been much higher. Gold is worth more when times are bad and people are scared.

I have my MIL's Delta Zeta badge (gold with pearls and what looks like a diamond) and guard from her Southern Methodist U. chapter. I looked, but that chapter was closed long ago. She graduated in 1940, but I don't know if the badge was from that era or later.
I see them on ebay, but that feels kind of strange. OTOH, keeping it a box is not useful.

Lupine, if there are no girls in the family who might pledge DZ, please send it back to DZ headquarters. I have stipulated to my family that if my daughter( who is also my sorority sister) doesn't want it and my brand new granddaughter ( or any future granddaughters) doesn't/don't pledge Zeta, my badge should be sent back to our headquarters.
