LOL girlie, you sound like too much fun! At least you're not like me. When I get really nervous I get SICK! I feel so nauseated & it's just the worst. I swear I spent the whole morning, before I went to meet some girls, hanging over the toilet. I was a sight!! Now I can't believe I was so nervous, they're just like me & I'm way too normal around them Hope you make it through lunch (at the table & not in the bathroom that is) & make some new friends while you're there. GOOD LUCK!

Well I am nervous about meeting these girls for lunch, keep in mind that i will only meet ONE one day and the other the next day. I think meeting one sorority girl at a time is good for me, well atleast in the beginning. If i meet her and get along then I say "Bring them all on" haha, just kidding, but i do hope i lose my "nervousness"(if thats even a word!). Well I have a lunch date set with the Phi Mu a week from tomorrow, so i guess I can set the one with the Alpha Chi on tuesday. I am only on campus those two days, so that works out the best for me Delta Zeta has some kind of "show" going on for tomorrow, i think its called Gong Show, i could be wrong, i forget. Anyway, the only reason I know of it is because since i emailed a DZ to find out information on her sorority, she told me about it. I really want to go, but since i hardly know anyone at school right now, its hard. The people I have met this year are cool, but we arent at that stage where we hang out, does anyone know what im talking about?? I am not trying to sound like a snob, but its not like when you meet a perfect stranger you'll ask them to go out with you somewhere. Well...actually i guess i could ask one the them....the thing is that they commute to school as well and dont live close to me at all. I might go ahead and ask this girl i have known since the second grade. She goes to school there and lives in the dorms. Now I am just wondering when it ends because i have to drive home ALONE afterwards. I know you guys might think im silly but lets keep in mind the following....I didnt even take drivers ed. until the summer before senior year(drill team kept me too busy, thats why) and i didnt get a car until a year ago. Anyways, until i started going to UH this year, i never drove on the freeway. My first day of school my parents and I were nervous for me. The thought of people going 65mph,70, or worse blew my mind! Well.... i am doing great, and i like to drive on the far left lane where all the "speedy" drivers get on. My fear for highways are gone! I dont really like to drive on there at night though... thats why going to see the show tomorrow might be a problem. OH!! I think its today... i was just reading her email and she referred to it as tomorrow but she wrote it last night. I guess i wont be able to go anyway since i work today. I get out at 630, and it starts at 7pm. With houston traffic, ill be lucky if i get there to see any of the show! Oh well... i guess it wasnt meant to be. Next week ALL the sororities and fraternities are putting on a show that is called "strut your stuff" i think. I really want to go to that!! Hopefully ill find someone to go with!!

I'm really glad to hear that everything is going good. It's great that you're getting things set up. I really hope you get to go to that show. I've never gone to one, but have heard the stories & they are too funny! Keep us posted!

Well i did mention something about Delta Zeta, they are having their annual Gong Show tonight. I was emailed by a DZ inviting me to come, but i had to work so i was unable to make it. Delta Zeta is one of 6 sororities on campus. The other 5 are Delta Gamma, Alpha Chi Omega, Phi Mu, Chi Omega, and Zeta Tau Alpha. About frontier fiesta, for those of you that dont know its like this really big thing at my school. Although I have not attended one yet since its held in the spring and this is my first year here.... i have heard things about it. Every sorority pairs up with a fraternity and they have a performance. It is a competition and supposedly a HUGE event! Besides that they have bbq and many more things. A lot of people come out that weekend to see the show. I think its held for one entire weekend and they perform several nights. I cant wait to go this year and hey... i might actually perform if i make a sorority, ahh... how cool is that?!?! I was on drill team in high school and since then i havent performed, so that might be a fun idea!! Okay, for those who have been following up on my life... haha i feel like a computer version of Ed TV...anyway, i have a SET lunch date with the Phi Mu. How silly am I, yesterday i went out and bought a cute shirt to wear on that day and i went to this alteration place to get my black pants hemmed. They wont be ready until tuesday, but since lunch isnt until thursday, no biggie! I am nuts!! Well i am going to have lunch with the alpha chi sometime soon, but i havent talked to her in a couple of days. We are going to have to compare schedules. Well everyone keep in touch, AXO alum... i havent heard from you recently! You are my pal, along with everyone else!

Hey bucutie.. I am so excited for you! I can't wait to find out how your lunch dates go. I am so addicted to this now-this is more addicting that my soaps(any soap opera fans agree with me on this one?)I can't wait to hear all about it! And now I am even more pumped since you were talking about DZ. You should really check them out. If they are anything like my sisters, they are really down-to-earth, nice, and so sweet! Let me know how everything goes...and good luck :-)

Last night i was casually telling my parents that next thursday all the sororities and fraternities are putting on a show called "strut your stuff". Anyway then my dad said that sororities and fraternities arent good, and they are all too wild. Even though I am not in one right now, i plan to rush so it offended me. He said that all they do is party and my mom agreed with him in a way. Then I started thinking.... I am not wild nor have i ever gotten drunk. I know that there are different types of people in sororities. Some do drink and are wild, but others arent. If i were to get in to one, i dont think i would change and become a wild girl. Even though i still want to rush, my parents opinion matters me to a lot, and i dont want to be involved in something they dont approve of. What is everyone's comment on this?

bucutie02--Ask your parents why they feel the way the do about Greek Life. Did they have poor experiences with Greeks in college? Are they basing their opinions on the media? Ask them if they've had any experience with Greeks at your school. Greek life can be like night and day at different schools.
"If i were to get in to one, i dont think i would change and become a wild girl."
Most likely you're right. Ask your parents if they're concerned that you will change, or that they just don't want you to be around "wild" people. If they're concerned that you'll change; ask for examples of you doing this in the past. If you hadn't, then why do thy feel that way?
"Even though i still want to rush, my parents opinion matters me to a lot, and i dont want to be involved in something they dont approve of."
There is nothing wrong with caring about your parents opinion. But rushing doesn't mean that you have to join a sorority. You could decide on your own that the Greek life at your school is not what you want to be a part of.
I suggest rushing and deciding on your own if it's what you want. If it is what you want, you can then discuss with your parents any concerns that you or they may have. Once you meet some members you'll have specific examples to counter their negative opinions. Also, if you decide to join, the members or chapter advisors can talk things over with your parents.
Check with the Greek Life office at your campus and see if they have any informational pamphlets for parents.
Good Luck!
p.s. I know that this topic has come up quite often on these boards. Do a few searches and you should be able to find quite a bit of advise.

Thanks for letting me know about that post that Q-T Pie had posted on here about parents not agreeing on rushing a sorority. That helped a lot! Well i am going to take everyone's advice... and first meet a couple of girls, and if I am still interested in rushing, i will talk with my parents. As all of you must already know, i am meeting a girl this thursday. Hopefully things will work out okay, she seems pretty nice. I will keep everyone updated as soon as i meet her. Does anyone know if you have preference night and bid day for informal rush? i know its different at other schools, but i just want to know what other schools do. I am not sure what they do at mine, but i have emailed some sorority members asking them that.

Hey Rosanna
I am so glad that you have set dates, the hardest part is usually the scheduling. I do hate to hear that your parents aren't exactly for the sorority experience. At first my parents weren't but I think there coming around. I started to get my mom involved more & she can now see how excited I am about this & how nice the girls are (I'm always talking about them). Also Barbara helped me out by sending me a few brochures for my parent's to read. I think that showing your parents how much this means to you & how excited you are about it may help a bit. I'll be checking in to see how it goes!
Oh, I've been waiting to talk to you for about 3 days now. I too am so excited. One of the girls birthdays was on the 13th & we finally got together this Thursday. We grabbed dinner & looked for little sis presents, but had a total blast. She was so honest with me about everything & answered all of my questions. She even invited me to their monthly dinner that they have before their meetings. I feel almost excited as you sound. Anyway, hope to see you on IM so we can chat!! Take care girlie.

Hey Allison and everyone else!!! Allison, that is so awesome about you hanging out with the girls... i haven't been online lately, so im sorry about that, but super happy for you!!! way to go girl!!! Well i have been painting my room all day today... well not painting. I bought this wall stencil thing, and im doing it as a border close to my ceiling. They are vines with roses... its looking awesome! I still have a little bit left to do though! Oh... yesterday i had an accounting test, and this one AXO that has been emailing me told me that their house is on this one street i always drive by... so yesterday i tried to look and i found it!! Its not your typical sorority house, its really small. I think only about 2 or 3 girls live there, but its nice to have like small parties or meetings there. I dont know where the other houses are, but its defintely the prettiest house on the street. I dont think any other sorority or fraternity houses are on that street. Actually not all the sororities have a house yet... only 3/6 i think. Anyway... it was really cute decorated... it had a wreath on the door, and i liked the brick too!! hehe, sorry guys... i could go on and on about it but ill stop now This thursday is the big day... i already have my outfit picked out Ill let you know what happens.... have an awesome weekend everyone.... well whats left of it!!

okay girls... and any guys who are following up on me here is my latest scoop... unfortunately i was not able to meet the girl i have been telling you about today. It was really my fault... something came up and i had to reschedule. The good news is that she was perfectly fine with it and said we can do it some other time. I am not by any means going to pass that up and as soon as i have time after class... we will meet! I dont have any new news about anything else. Sorry this post is a little on the boring side! We need to keep posting replies on here... and keep it on fire baby! okay, well i have to go now, but hope to hear from any of you soon!
