Lambda Chi Alpha: First chapter at HBCU - Page 2

I'm not sure if I understand. . .

I know that Phi Beta Kappa exists at HBCU's, I was just wondering when they first came there.

i do apologize. i misread.

amazing how missing one letter can change the whole meaning of a statement.

i know Phi Beta Kappa was established @ Fisk in 1952. i'm not sure when the chapter @ Howard was established.

I think if some understand, that what Steve Corbin is talking about, is Greek Social Organizations, Not a Service Oganizations!

This is a step in the right direction for common Brother/Sisterhood!

I also am a Proud Member of APO so do not even try to get on my case!

Tom,

I think that any previously all white organization expanding to an HBCU before the Civil Rights movement is noteworthy, social, service, or otherwise. That's where I'm coming from, and probably where honeykiss1974 is coming from.

I also think that any social organization expanding to an HBCU in this day and age is noteworthy, as well. A service org expanding to an HBCU isn't as exciting as LXA going to NCA&T.

How would I find out if my fraternity had any chapters at HBCUs? They aren't called HBCUs on the website.

APO has been at HBCU's since 1947. I'm not sure about GSS though.

The first chapter of Gamma Sig at an HBCU was, (wouldn't you know it) the Alpha Eta chapter at Howard University in 1963.

I think this is a wonderful idea. I don't know the campus atmosphere of NCAT, but if it's an HBCU, I'm willing to wager that there are more than a few people there who have never heard of Lambda Chi. This could actually work in their favor. Lambda Chi could position itself as the alternative to the well established D9 organizations on the campus, and attract those men who like the idea of fraternity life, but are looking for something different. I could only imagine that the same would hold true if an NPC sorority decided to colonize at an HBCU.

I wish the colony well, and kudos to Lambda Chi for taking this step.

I was at one of my Chapters Last Sun and 3 new Associates came up and I was told watch what I said about our Secrets!

One was an Afro-American and I told them that I am glad to see that you have become a real Chapter!

He was a very pleasant Young Man as the other 2 were! I am for one Proud that they took a step forward!

I cannot wait for the day that I can Call This Fine Young Man My Brother!

I have to admit I have a soft spot for Lambda Chis from way back in my days as an undergraduate. The chapter at Georgia State folded back in the late 80s, but they were a classy, personable, and intelligent group of guys. I was truly sad to see them go.

However, it was a nice bit of synchronicity that my sorority ended up with their old suite (I wasn't a member at the time).

While we are not an NIC fraternity (yet -- fingers crossed that we will be before too much longer!), our first chapter at an HBCU was our Zeta Iota, chartered on May 19, 1952, at -- you guessed it -- Howard. Our Iota Beta Chapter was founded at NC A&T in 1972; it is inactive now.

Congratulations and best of luck to the Lambda Chi colony at NC A&T!
