everything was better back in 98? hehe, sorry to laugh but that does make you sound like an old timer... back in my day, we had to walk to school. uphill. both ways. in three feet of snow. there were rocks. and we didn't have shoes. J/K just reminded me of that.
If that's true then your campus has a lot bigger problem on their hands. Drugs are probably looked down upon even more in the IFC/Panhel world that drinking.
And IFC has nothing to do with it then. Unless there are fraternities distributing these.
You said yourself that kids are going to house parties. If all of the sudden the fraternities could have parties again, this definately wouldn't end the house parties. And it wouldn't end the nitrous oxide problem.

Sounds like the problem here is not so much the IFC rules as it is groups that don't give a **** about any rules, including criminal laws. Sorry, but it's pure bull to blame an IFC rule prohibiting alcohol for any group's decision to distribute controlled substances. If this is typical of Greek groups on your campus, then more than two fraternities need to die. With behavior like this, though, it's not the school or IFC killing them... they're killing themselves.

ouch
I'm only 24. Be nice. It would enf the house partys and the fraternities would be able to go back to the way things were. animal house, without the parade trashing or the horrendous grades, plus a bit of community service and fund raising. The house parties sprung up in place f the fraternity parties and are exactly what they used to be. One is even in the old TKE house. Same house party, same $5 per cup, same booze luge, etc. Just now there are four people trying to run and regulate everything where before there were at least 20.

Amen MysticCat
If these are the problems going on, I don't think i would even blame the university for trying to shut down the greek system.
Groups that don't give a sh!t, should be closed.
Anyway, as much fun as it is here, i'm off to a place of even more fun and exciting place- THE DENTIST! Woohoo, my first cavity every.
I'll be back in a while.

The word you're looking for is "nitrous."

Is that the crux problem here (beyond fraternities that are using the no-alcohol rule as an excuse to break the law) -- that the IFC is not representative of the groups that make it up? If that's the case, then it sounds like a revamp of IFC is in order.

Sorry, Apacheksc21 -- still going to disagree with you here. IFC did not "cause" the death of two fraternities. The chapters' decisions to not change with the times and abide by new rules brought on their "death."
