My parents just liked the name... I remember finding a baby name book and there were a few names underlined, but Amy was the one they chose.
My middle name is the female version of Michael (Michelle) which is a family name. I don't know if that had anything to do with it, but it sure could
PS. Had I been born a boy I would have been named Christopher LOL

My first name is Carrie. It's after my mom's maiden name, but her maiden name is spelled Carey. My dad didn't like that spelling, so Carrie it was. (Then the movie came out shortly afterwards & boy was my mom pissed about that!)
My middle name is Lenore, after my mom, grandma & great-grandma! We all have the same middle name, and my grandma actually goes by it 'cause she doesn't like her 1st name (Sybil). I love my middle name, 'cause other than my family, NO ONE has it. (Well, there is that Edgar Allan Poe poem, but that's okay. )
If I was a boy my dad wanted to name me Tel. Not short for anything, that's the whole name! I think it was after a character's son in one of his favorite books.. something like that. Thank god I wasn't a boy!

When my parents planned on having a second child (me!) they immediatly started picking out manes, but would not share with each other which ones they liked. So one day they finally sat down and discussed it. My dad said he really liked Allison, and my mom started jumping up and down, because that was also one of her favorite names.
So when it came to my middle name they fought for 9 monthes! My dad liked Ann and my mom felt like they should carry on family tradition and name the baby part of the grandparents names, which left them with a choice of Jean, Betty, Blanche, or Elizabeth. My mom liked Elizabeth after my fathers mothers middle name. So it wasn't decided untill I was born that I would offically be named Allison Elizabeth
I love my name, even though my friends all call me Allie LOL

My first name is a variation of Mary.... My mother, both her grandmothers, and both my father's grandmothers are all named Mary. I escaped it by a hair (and four letters), a good thing since I've since found I have like 20 cousins named Mary... and I'm not a Christian.
My middle name is a variation of my mother's grandmother's middle name- she changed it to Elizabeth.
But since my parents were being original, they spelled it Elysabeth.
I've never seen anyone else spell it that way!

I am the Third which sucks. It is a family name from my dad's parternal grandmother. Middle name is because when my grandad was born there was complications and so named the doctor that saved both lives (my grandaddy and his mother) his last name was the middle name. Billy comes from a pet crow my granddaddy had. The crow was black billy and grandfather was white billy but just billy stuck. So he passed that down. I think Tristan a better name than mine.

My grandmother came up with my name when she had my mom, but she decided to name her something else instead. When my mom had me, my grandmother suggested it to her, so that's why I'm Donielle.

Hey, come on, I love the name Beulah! I keep threatening to rename myself Beulah every time I meet ANOTHER Dana. I used to be the only one I knew, and then lo and behold, they all started coming out of the woodwork--there's another one in my sorority, and things get confusing sometimes. But thank God I'm not a Jennifer or a Lindsey or something really common like that!
But as for the original question, my dad just added an "a" to the end of his name, and voila. My middle name is my grandfather's (Ray, only with an "e" instead of a "y").

My name, Aimée, is a family name. Its pronounced A-may; its French for Amy. My middle name is another family name, its too complicated to even go into it. Its French as well.
I swear, all of my children will have phonetic names.

I'm the only person in my entire family... even back to like the 1700-1800's... to NOT be named for a relative. The closest I come to being named for anyone at all is the doctor who delivered me. I wanted to be really early -- due in early Sept, born in early Aug. My mom had preterm labor in May, June, and July.
It took my parents 3 days to finally name me a variation of the dr.'s first name. Thank goodness they chose that, though! Otherwise, my name could have been Willamina.

My parents always liked the name Sarah. My middle name is the name of my mother's best friend, and the maid of honor at her wedding.

Hey! I'm an Amy Michelle too I'm not really sure how my parents came up with Amy but my middle name was choses because my dads is Michael.
I was going to be named Shelley (my moms maiden name) but my dad didn't like it so I got Amy Michelle instead.

My first name is McGee. It's sort of a family name.... my grandmother was born and raised in Mcgehee, Arkansas, although the spelling is a bit different from my name. My father swears that McGee was the last name of a character on a tv show, but I'm not sure I believe him. When I tell people about my grandmother being from Mcgehee, AR, I always say "I'm incredibly grateful she wasn't from someplace like Smackover!" (yes, there IS a Smackover, Arkansas!!!)
The complicating factor is that my LAST name is now commonly used as a woman's FIRST name, and McGee is commonly used as a last name, so everyone gets my name backwards! Oh well. I like my name though because it's so unique! Once people get the order right, they never forget my name.
Had I been a boy, I'd have been William Thomas III after my father. I'm glad I wasn't given my grandmothers' names, or I'd have been Betty Muriel! We have a ton of odd names in our family though, including such gems as Keturiah, Parthenia and Una, so I guess I lucked out with McGee.

I have no idea why my parents named me Tracy -- I guess they just liked it. They picked my middle name, Noelle, because I was born near Christmas. I've kind of always wanted an unusual first name, but because my last name is long and complicated, I suppose it's for the best that I didn't get one. However, I always thought it would be cool to change my name to Noelle Tracy.
