Boston University is nearly finished with the construction of the Hotel Commonwealth, a 5-star hotel located in historic Kenmore Square in Boston . . . BU owns the hotel, and in fact owns all of the land in the square. As a point of reference, BU also owns the land that MIT is located on, although I think the 'lease' expires soon and MIT will have to stop paying the $1/year rent (and will take the land officially).
If you want to talk about rich schools . . . here's the prime example - why do students pay $38,000 to attend a second-tier school, if it owns literally tens of millions of dollars in (unrelated) real estate in the Boston area?
