dwelling on this means terrorists won because we are allowing them to dictate how we live our lives.

1) I don't really think it should be a holiday on the scale of Memorial Day, where everybody gets off from work and school and there are lots of parades and everybody goes on vacation and gets drunk. If it's going to be turned into a holiday, it shouldn't be anything more extreme than, say, Pearl Harbor Day -- a day of remembrance, but nothing more.

2) I think this is ridiculous. People in this country need to accept the fact that sometimes bad stuff just happens. Americans survived for 200+ years without suing each other for every little wrong committed, and it would be nice if we could get back to that. If the money came from the terrorists, then sure, I have no problem with that, but that's never going to happen. We've spent enough money on the repercussions of this event already, and I don't think we need to spend any more.

3) I think that something should be rebuilt, but, as some other people mentioned, nothing that's such an "easy target" as the WTC was. I think a memorial park is a nice idea, but it doesn't need to take up the whole space -- part of it would be just fine.

1. I don't think it should be a holiday, I mean, they're gonna make it like one foe a little while, but it shouldn't officially be one. I mean, if that's the case then April 19 (I think, don't kill me) should be one because of Oklahoma City. And so-an-so date should be one because of such-and-such. Every bad thing that happens does not need a holiday for it. Most people use holidays as a time to eat. And be lazy. So why disgrace the day by making it a holiday?

2. See, reparations are such a sticky thing, because some have gotten LOTS of money, some have gotten little, and some nothing at all. I mean, outside of people employed at the WTC, how can you prove that someone deserves reparations? I mean, what about someone who was just walking down the street when they collapsed?? And like someone else said, what about those people who are already getting BUCKETS of money from pensions/insurance? WHo should pay the money? What happened wasn't anybody's fault but the people that did it. People argue that Bush and everybody knew about it, but, They hear about stuff like that EVERYDAY, and they probably got numerous other threats for that day, I mean, its kind of a hard position to be in, "ok, which threats MAY be real?" (ok, now I'm rambling) Anyway, reparations are usually paid when a wrong has been done, and unless the terrorist are gonna pay, I don't think so. What if they had just died in a car accident? Death happens, you have to deal with it in whatever form it comes in (not to sound mean AT ALL, that kind of death is HORRIBLE!!!).

3. This is a sticky one, I mean, the whole site is composed of dead bodies at this point, but I think that for such a large site, they need to rebuild it as something, but there HAS to be a memorial portion, and not something cheesy either.

I'm sure some folks will be more than happy to disagree with my opinions, but here goes:

1.) I do not think there should be a holiday marking this event. What would be the purpose of making this a holiday? Unfortunately, we have had plenty of Americans die at the hands of terrorists before. Where is the holiday for them? Also, if something of magnitude happens again, will we then turn that day into a holiday as well?

2.) I do not think there should be reparations. Again, we have had plenty of Americans die at the hands of terrorists before. Where are the reparations of this magnitude for them? Also, what is the difference between people dying in the WTC vs. Oklahoma City or vs. the anthrax deaths besides the number of casualties? Terrorism is terrorism, regardless if it was done by foreign or domestic idiots. If any thing is to be given out, it should DEFINITELY be based on need, since, a lot of those companies that offiped space within the WTC were financial houses (meaning they had pension, insurances, etc.).

3.) I personally think a memorial should be placed somewhere on that site, since there are a lot of remains still there.

I agree with you 100%, 33girl, holiday is the wrong word. I think it would be better asked, Should 9/11 be declared a National Day of Mourning?

I don't know whether Sept 11th will develop into a National Day of Mourning but I think every year from here on it, there will be ceremonies, whether businesses are closed or not. So, it might be observed, without disruption to business.....
