I use Kazaa. It's been really good, and so fast and although they have like spyware or whatever, I think you can get something to block that. I don't really mind however, because I don't have an confidential documents on my comp, and I always check for viruses and such.

Here at Iowa, there is LAN in the room, and it's SO fast that I downloaded the whole Van Wilder movie in like 5 minutes!

As for some songs to download, get creative. I downloaded some Monster Ballads the other day.

I use KaZaA, but some times when I am searching for a song, I do not get any results and other times it tells me that KaZaA is not connected. Ahhh, so then I have to close it completely and re-open the program. But other than that, I have no complaints.

Cool Good feel-good song!

If you really want a feel-good song then I would suggest "If you like Pina Coladas" by Jimmy Buffet. It really has a good vibe to it and you will be deffinitly dancing when you hear it!

I use BearShare, and I've never really had any problems with it. Most download programs give you the option of what type of files people can download from you. If you only want them to see music files, that's all they can get. However, I have no experience with Kazaa so I don't know if you have that option or not.

Some good songs:

Cheap Trick, "I Want You to Want Me" (the Letters to Cleo version is good also)
Indigo Girls, "Closer to Fine"
Jamiroquai, "Falling"
Prince, "Seven" & "When Doves Cry"

Talking Help!

My dad just got a CD-R. So now we can burn cds. I'd like to download songs but I have no clue where to begin.

So far ya'll mentioned grokster, BearShare, and KaZaA. Are these free? Do they all let other people "see" files in you computer? How does it work?

Ya gotta go to a yahoo.com search or someplace and search. You can download form there, or try www.downloads.com. They might be there too. Download and install. Then search for the mucic you want. You set up in the preferences for how much of your hard drives others can see. Its usually set to default with is 0 security, so you'll wanna dothat first. Then download. But before you can burn onto a CD to listen in your car, you gotta convert from .mp3 format (which is what online music is in) to .wav format, which is what your car CD player can hear. Often the mp3 to wav converter is on the bruning software, liek Roxio or something. Or you can download it off of downloads.com too. so download, convert, then burn. Remember, mp3 is a compressed format, so when you convert, you are actually making an uncompresed copy. When you are done burnign, delete the wav fiel off your computer, or you'll fill up your hard drive in NO time. wav files are about 10x larger than their compressed counterparts. Good luck.

download

By far the best results you will find for MP3s will be on the Kazaa network right now. However Kazaa has problems with spyware where ads pop up all over the place and advertising companies monitor your habits to target you better with the software. But a group of people have taken Kazaa and stripped it of the spyware and it runs a lot faster. It's called Kazaa Lite and you can get it at http://www.kazaalite.com/. Just make sure if you update it after you download it, you get the update from their site and not from Kazaa.com.
