Our allumni group (college, not Greek) is getting together to watch both the Ohio State/Michigan game and then the Ohio University/Miami game -- a fairly bitter rivalry in itself, with a few things in common -- not the least is which that Bo Schembechler coached both Miami and Michigan.
I certainly can't argue with his record, but he said a whole lot of very unsportsmanlike things at both schools.

i love the Miami-OU rivalry! the best part is the backstories, like how the Ou band is banned from appearing at Miami and vice-versa...they got into a fight or something maybe 20 years ago. It was a huge story last year in the Post as a precursor to the game.
It's really fun sititng in the OU section of the stadium during the game and hearing guys who are less than sober screaming "Our band can beat up your football team!"
anyway i have to say Go Buckeyes!!!!! for this weekend.

"Our band can beat up your football team!"
The team may need the help this year. It hasn't been much of a season for the Cats. Although they did win Homecoming when I was there!
The first time the Marching 110 (the modern day band) played at Miami for "Migration," I was the announcer.
The Miami fans threw raw eggs and empty wine bottles at the band at pre-game. One guy actually had to be seen by medical people after being hit in the face.
By halftime, the Miami fans were on their feet dancing with the OU Band. We were playing a rock show which included Aquarius and Let the Sunshine from Hair as the finale. It was an overcast day, and when the band got to Let the Sunshine, the clouds parted, and the sun shown through. I kid you not about that, either. When the Miami band came out and played "Mr. Touchdown, USA" (no, I'm not kidding about that), they were booed by their own fans. It was kind of akward for me up in the Miami Press Box.
That was 1968 or '69 when the Bobcats went to the Tangerine Bowl -- the same year that Coach Schembechler, after losing a really hard fought game to O.U. said -- and this is an actual quote -- "they can play football untill Hell freezes over at Ohio and never be champions." He took his sportsmanship to Michigan shortly after that. Both he and Woody Hayes, both legendary, coached at Miami.
Which partially explains my comment about him above. There's no excuse for that at the college level.
There is some question in my mind which came first: Muck Fiami or MucK Fishigan, but the two rivalries remain great ones.
edited to add:
My wife's apartment mate from her senior year at O.U. married a Miami grad, and they live here in Denver. He's a Deke. We have a great time at these alumni gatherings.

While I suppose you could call Colorado one of Nebraska's biggest rivals...I go outside of the Big Twelve...
I hate hate hate University of Miami and Florida State with a passion. I guess it stems back to those bowl games

Been to several Colorado/Nebraska games in both venues. Don't think Colorado will be much of a threat this year -- although they did have a good day against Oklahoma.

Flautist. yup.
I'm a violinist, so I already know what's in store for the relationship. She starts student teaching next year, so not only do I have to go to her college related concerts, I will now have to go and watch her students.

UM/OSU makes these rivalries look like the final game of Hoosiers.

There is a DJ in Detroit who made a song to the OSU fight song tune.. here are the lyrics (I'm doing the words when it was Woody Hayes as coach .. they change the one verse)
Liquidate Ohio State and turn the Buckeyes BLUE,
They've got a lot of cattle in Columbus, it looks just like a zoo!
Knock them off their ivory towers,
Send them crawling into the showers,
DOWN with Ohio State,
They're a know nothing party school!
They say the girls who go to OSU are husband hunting dames,
They dig the jocks that got the killer instinct,
Not the boys with brains.
At Columbus, you're way ahead,
With straight A's in Physical Ed,
Down with Ohio State, they're a know nothing party school.
Bust your butt for Woody,
Lose your gut for Woody,
Repeat
(No offense to any OSU folks out there.. it's just a really funny song!)
