Just thougt I'd throw my 2 cents in on the matter. I go to LSU too and juniorgrrl and others have pretty much summed up the Greek System here.

As far as finding stuff to do if you aren't in a sorority, you don't have to worry about that. About the 2nd or 3rd week of school, there is an Organizational Fair. This is where representative for all 350+ come out to "recriut" new members. It's held in both the Fall and Spring so there is plenty of opportunities to get involved. If you live in the Res Hall, then you'll have the opportunity to get involved in Hall gov't and there will be plenty of R.A.'s around to help you get adjusted. If you let me know which dorm you'll be in, I'll try and see who you're R.A. will be.

If you have anymore questions, let me know. my email addy is in my profile if you wish to email me.

Thought for the day: Remember Memorial Day and be thankful to all our Grandparents,
fathers, brothers family and friends who served or are serving to protect our freedom.
worriedsenior,

Ask your mom if she went inactive or disaffiliated. There is a difference.

If she went inactive, that means she is still a member but didn't participate in activities for this or that reason. If this is what she did, you're a legacy.

If she disaffiliated, that means she turned in her pin and the national HQ no longer considers her a member or an alum. In this case you wouldn't be a legacy.

If either of you have any questions, the best route might be to call the sorority's national HQ and ask for your mom's official status. How much this is "checked out" depends on the chapter and the national.

I hope I didn't confuse you!! If you have any questions email me.

And I left your thought for the day in because it rocks.

Cool

MY GOSH! You guys are great! Thanks for the info! We really appreciate all the offers to help us. Everyone is talking about rush and getting crazy over the amount of posts that keep saying how competitive it is. Well, OK, if it is, it is. You are right though, we would rather know what we are facing than go in there like hey, you gotta love us! We are going to Florida. Wish us luck. Hopefully when we come back we will have great tans and memories. I know we will miss the posts. On second thought, hope we don't have time to miss them. Thank you all for being there with support, words of advice and offers to help.

Question

UofLa. I think I’ll rush, but need to know more on the cost. I know there are all these
gifts to get big and little sisters plus special clothes and stuff along the way. I think having
study and grade requirements would be good for me.
As far as I know from my friends at Tech (a sigma nu), the Greek system isnt very competitive at all. He was the first Greek in his family, and he wasnt too involved in high school.
Another friend of mine (a tri-delt) at UL said that she thinks its a little more competitive there. I dont think her fees were all that much, but then again I never really asked her either!

hope this helps?
