Hurrah for Sweethrt! It's been great to see your thought process as you've posted in this thread. It would be wonderful if every PNM gave as much thought and mature reflection to the recruitment process as it seems like you have!

My sister said something to me a couple of days ago, "I hope you realize that going Greek will not help you later in life...you'll probably never hear from your 'sisters' again.."

But, after just reading and talking to people on here, I've realized that it wil help later...not what I just thought as a 4 year deal Thanks everybody!!! Future Greek coming your way!!

Good for you!! I could not count the number of times that my sisters have been there for me. Whether they are younger, older, from my chapter or anywhere in North America I have cherished the friendships I have had in my life due to my AOII membership. Whether you join a local sorority now or not, or eventually also join a national/international sorority, you already know that sisterhood is for a lifetime. I can't wait to read your recruitment story--I hope you plan to share it with us as well!

Fraternally,
Christin

I'm glad to see you've made a decision that you feel comfortable with. I'm in a GLO at OU and i am proud to say that all the national GLOs are very strong and are wonderful groups to be a part of. In case you decide to transfer to OU, good luck and I hope you find the chapter that you fit in with best.

This is not directed at you so don't take it as such...I am guess SAEpi on MTV is just a fragment of all of our imaginations...As far as all of the local and non-NPC bashing goes...it is really ridiculous...

No, I have a lot of respect for locals. Perhaps I phrased that badly. NPC is of course *aware* that locals exist. But the agreements they have to prevent girls from joining more than one sorority do not apply to locals. In one sense this is logical, because otherwise no local sorority could affiliate with a national organization. In another way it is very demeaning - a national establishing a colony can recruit not only independents and women from the local who petitioned for them (if that is the case) but members of ANY local on campus. I can't imagine that I would be thrilled if I were in a local sorority and some girls "defected" to the new national when it came on campus. It also means that a girl who joins a local and initiates could quit and then join a national right on that campus. That would certainly not be Panhellenic or nice, but it is allowed under NPC rules.

This happened on my campus, in my sorority. There was a group trying to charter a pahnel organization, but the NPC on campus turned them down. Our chapter's numbers were low and we invited them to pledge and "merge" with our current chapter, bringing us out of the danger zone.

The other two panel organazations on campus were very unhappy about it, but it was all done about reporach and legally, albeit an incredibly shortened pledge process - we actually had two pledge classes in one semester.

99% of the girls from that organization pledged, and our numbers instantaneously doubled and brought us up to speed numbers wise with the other two panhel organizations on campus.
