Although you have received some really good advice, people can and will get ignorant when it comes to food.
Suggestion: have 2 receptions
the first (about 2 hrs. long) with your "finger food" and punch at the CHURCH (make sure that this menu is reallllllly simple ,no more than 8 dishes, and inexpensive. A GOOD caterer can make tuna fish on cracker look real appetizing) and the second should be a INVITATION only for family members and close friends. These invites are mailed separately from the original invitation. That way,you cover everybody.
BTW, I pm'ed you...Holla back!

I'se Married Now
Hello Everyone:
I could not take it anymore!! After looking at the 1000th wedding invitation catalog, having to track down the event coordinator for our reception so we can negotiate a contract and finding out that he is no longer employed there and then having to find out that the cheapest video and photo package was about $3000, my Kappa man and I decided to get married.
We did it yesterday (the 23rd) at our pastor's home with very close family members present as witnesses. The double ring ceremony lasted 30 minutes and after we went home to "celebrate" we all had lunch at the Olive Garden. Due to time constraints (we're both in grad school) we have decided to keep our Disney World honeymoon in February but being the big kids we are, we will probably go to King's Island in Ohio for a little getaway weekend sometime soon.
So now I'm a happily married woman and my new hubby and I are not going to be broke!! With the money we saved, we are going to buy a computer system, a new (used) car for me, and pay off some bills. With the leftover, I may buy a laptop for my personal use so I can start writing my book!
Thanks to all of you who gave me really good suggestions!!! Sorry there's no big wedding to talk about. I'll post some pics when I get them back!!

Congratulations, sister Greek.
Good luck -- you were smart in using the $$$ to pay bills and get personal transportation.

Congrats!!!!
One of my co-workers decided to marry her fiance the same way... they were frustrated with wedding plans, and they went to the justice of the peace with a few family members and friends, and got married. They all went out to eat afterwards, and they are planning a honeymoon next year. They don't regret it one bit, because they saved money, and they are now happily married.
