Well, I’ve kept my mouth shut long enough. No small feat.

Vast majority, eh? Sorry Fuzzie, but it is wildly presumptuous of you to speak for the entire greek community on this or any issue. You don’t know what the “VAST MAJORITY of GLO members of any age” think. I sincerely hope you’re not imagining a majority based on what is posted at Greekchat. Please PLEASE tell me you don’t really believe the personalities and opinions expressed at Greekchat represent a majority among the entire population of greeks living in the world today.

Ask my national president how she feels on the matter, for example.

What do you mean, “for example”? Example of what? Example of how in your imagination one person becomes a VAST MAJORITY in a population of hundreds of thousands of living greeks simply because she is the “national president” of one of hundreds of greek letter organizations in existence today? Wow, a person could get a big head with that kind of power. Sorry, but a national president does not constitute a VAST MAJORITY. I encourage you to do a real poll and then you’ll find out what percentage of GLOs actually take a stance against badge collecting. You stick with your “VAST MAJORITY of any age” estimate and I’ll say 5%. If your guess is closer, I’ll personally hand deliver all my Quills to your national HQ gratis, and I’ll even throw in a few flying monkeys as long as you don’t ask where they came from.

Are YOU pounding the pavement, looking for pins?

Ah, TNAndy, well said. That really sums it up, doesn’t it? You know what cracks me up? I read all these posts about how collectors and dealers and ebay are so evil. Then every once in a while, someone gets on here and asks “hey, anyone know where I can find an antique jeweled badge?” and the answer always comes back “try ebay” or “try VintageFraternityPins.com” or “try posting a message on the collectors board”. Well here’s another suggestion. Try hauling YOUR butt out of bed every Saturday morning, getting YOUR cash out of the ATM, driving YOUR car for 4 hours roundtrip and hunting for the pins YOURselves. If doing the legwork is not a priority for you, fine. But don't complain just because finding YOUR badge is more important to me than it is to you.
You can’t complain about how Wal-Mart puts the “mom & pop” stores out of business and then buy your curling iron there because it’s $10 cheaper and they have a better selection. Well… you CAN. But it’s fairly hypocritical and silly.
Today you have an opportunity to rescue old badges from your organizations primarily for one reason – because badge collectors and dealers were/are around and doing the legwork when YOU weren’t. Simple as that. No thanks is necessary. Really it was our pleasure. Happy to help. But if you have to compete with a few of us hardworking collectors to get the pins, or wait a few years for the pins to find their way back home, well I’d say it’s a small price to pay.
Back on topic: Kddani, kudos to you for being proactive instead of simply barking about it after the fact.
