Gamma Phi has a mother's pin. It's a black shield with a pink carnation. I gave my mom one for mother's day. She loved it!!!

Pi Phi has a mothers pin but I don't know if there is a ceremony to go with it. It would be nice if there was though, because I'd like to get one for my mom!

Delta Zeta has a mother's pin, a father's tie tack and a husband's pin. I don't have a husband yet.... but I gave my mom the mothers pin for Christmas and my daddy the father's tie tack for father's day. The mothers pin is an ionic column with 4 pearls, similar to our badge...it has DZ at the top. The father's tie tack is a shorter ionic column without any pearls. I can't remember what the husbands pin looks like...but I won't have to worry about it for a while!

Oh, ShaedyKD, ya'll do have a mother's pin! My best friend gave her mom the mom's pin for mother's day...I know that it is fairly new...its really pretty!

So proud to be a DELTA ZEE!

No matter the letter, greeks do it better!

Yup Pi Phi has a mother's pin. I bought one for my mother for her birthday. It looks just like our pledge pin (the arrow head) except it has our letters on it. Jharb, I don't think we have an official ceremony either. It would be cool if we did though!!

Just a quick question...

I've read a couple of posts that said that they gave them to their mothers for birthdays and mothers day and stuff....

Does your organization not have a pinning ceremony for your moms?

Just asking.

I'm bumping this up because I have a question for other Gamma Phis...during my NME I was taught that the mother's pin is only to be worn by the mothers of deceased sisters. Was this incorrect?

I don't think so. I know a woman (an alumna) who wore one often and her daughter is a recent Beta Alpha grad (and still living). But, all I would know for sure is whatever is in the Membership Manual.

I like the idea of the mother's pin pinning ceremony. Great idea for getting your family involved.
Our Father's Pin was adopted in the early 90's I believe. It was disigned by a woman inititated into the Zeta Chi Chapter (UNC-Wilmington). She was in school the same time as me and we were at convention in Balitmore together. She showed me some drawings and told me that she was going to submit them to National Council... and she did... and they approved it!

Phi Mu has a mother's pin, but not a father's pin. The mother's pin:

I've thought a couple times about giving it to my mom, but wasn't sure how she'd react -- I really think it's true what they say about greek life being incomprehensible from the outside, and I never wanted to give her the impression that I was somehow highlighting the fact that I had this wonderful opportunity to be in this wonderful organization, and nanny nanny boo boo you don't get to know what the letter stand for either.

Not that she's like that, but you know what I mean.

Mom put herself through school working 2 jobs... rough, and sorority life was certainly out of the question (although I'm not sure she would have thought to rush, even if it hadn't been a problem financially.)

Who gave their mom a pin for Mother's Day, and what was the reaction?

mother's pinning

HI There,

I gave my mom a Mother's Pin and she absolutely loved the whole idea of it and loved the Ceremony that went with it. Outside of initiated sisters, mothers who have received the mothers pin, which has the crest on it, are the only ones allowed to wear the crest.

Another one of sister's mother who got the pin wears hers proudly all the time. In fact the sister Jojo told me that her mom follows exactly all the rules that we have when we have Phi Sigma Sigma letters, symbols etc on. Her mom even drink or go near alcohol if she's wearing the pin (and refuses to take it off just so she can drink).

I encourage you to give your mom a pin, especially if Phi Mu has as beautiful a ceremony as our mother's pinning is.

Carolyn

Do you think it's acceptable to give mother-in-laws a mothers pin?

CJ,
Since I know your situation, I would say "yes". I think your (future) mother-in-law would be really touched and I think it's a beautiful gesture! If you are close and feel that it's appropriate, then that's good enough for me.

I don't think anyone would be so uncouth as to say, "you can't give your Mother in Law a pin" and if they do, well *&$%# 'em!!
