Im from the Midwest and I live in the West and everyone says I sound "white" whatever that means. Who knew being articulate and verbose were negative?

A strange mix....

People say that I don't talk like a southerner even though I was born and raised in the Dirty South.....I've been told that I'm "proper" but I just try to speak the Kings English when its appropiate......I was stationed on the West coast so I sometimes use a more west coast like slang......I think its a nice mix of accents....

I never thought that I had an accent until I came to Florida for school. My Southern friends tease me so much about my Northern accent, one that I still don't hear. In general, I try to hold my accent back a little bit, depending on the situation. I've had people make some really crazy assumptions about based on my accent. But, I do have to admit that when I'm around my family my Philly accent gets much stronger. When I'm at home, boy turns into bul (my Philly peeps understand what I mean).

I've gotten that since elementary school. However, when I changed the group of people I was around, I didn't hear that anymore. Not in highschool, not in college. I know I sound the same but it's just the people around me who are different. When I speak to non-NYer's they tell me I have a New York accent. I don't hear it but I guess it is there. No, I don't throw in other languages to curse people out, but I do talk to bill collectors in Japanese. They don't mess with me after that.
