I'll take a wild stab at the figure "7". But is it arabic? I have heard that before. Also, just for another question, what is the object in the center of Theta Kappa Nu's badge?

Just to know: My name is David. I'm an undergrad at Mississippi State University serving as High Tau right now. EX = Epsilon-Chi Zeta

I was told of a nice little acronym by my chapter advisor for the 12 ideals - see if you've ever heard it:

EX 1022,

Nope, not Arabic. But you're close geographically. [Actually I think the common numbers we use everyday are Arabic, No?]

He is an awsome person, especially that commited to LXA and not dropping out after he didn't do to hot his 1st semester. We know how things go!

Fact: the word "daily" doesn't have the letter "e" in it.

Good one "Tome"

re: TKN's "mysterious symbol"

The "seven" symbol is SYRIAC, a language/alphabet used in
ancient syria that was a mix of Greek and the local syrian
language. Since Antioch, Syria, was the center of Christianity
for the middle of the first century (not to mention the 3rd largest
city in the "known" world at that time), many early Christian
writings were in Syriac....second only to Greek.

I think TKN chose the symbol because it is an ELEVEN and
because it fits nicely on the badge.

Oh, and I'd like to know where you found the colors of the
TKN pledge pin...all the ones I've seen are silver with 4
black triangles, or gold with 4 black triangles....but I've only
seen a couple.

Finally, it seems the question "where was the TKN/LXA
merger approved" went half answered....TKN's Grand Chapter
was meeting in Birmingham, AL at the same time LXA's
General Assembly was meeting in San Francisco. (Telegrams
used to communicate back and forth). WWII began (Germany
attacked Poland) on the day the union took effect (Sep 1, 1939).
The votes were taken the previous day.

Oh, and the TKN rose doesn't have 'thorns'...they are 'sepals'
the little leaf-like structures around the base of a flower.
But they do look like thorns

OK here's a real hard trivia question for ya (I think).

Like most all general fraternities in the 1920's and 30's, including
LXA, TKN's constitution limited membership to the "Aryan race",
but it specifically stated that one ethnic group no one would
conisder 'white' today was part of the "Aryan race", and so
members of this ethnic group were allowed to join TKN.
After the merger with LXA, members of this group were no
longer allowed to join (until the 1960's)

What was the non-white ethnic group that TKN
considered "Aryan"??

Hint: it's NOT Hebrew/Jew

P.S. I'm curious to know how TKN members of this ethnic
group were treated after the merger....if they were ever
considered LXA alums, just ignored, etc. etc. There were
probably so few of them that it wasn't a big issue.

Speaking of Theta Kappa Nu Pledge Pins

Brothers,

I have a little Theta Kappa Nu Pin that I have never seen before: about a 1/2" long and a 1/4" wide; five sided with three side to top and two sides making a point at the bottom; monogram of OKN upper middle of pin; made of gold and black enamel.

Sorry I couldn't draw it and I am not sure how to scan it to this site.

Is it a recognition pin?

Anybody have an idea about what this is?

Yours in ZAX,

Mike Raymond,

re: TKN button

I have a scanned image from the 1937 pledge manual
(called Vir Quisque Vir Est) online....large .jpeg file.
It shows all the "official" jewelry at the time, but I think
variations were made for "unofficial" purposes.

I have what looks like an official "alumni recognition button",
but with a loop at the top to be worn on a necklace instead of
as a pin....so I think it may actually be a "sweetheart charm"

Web address mentioned above:

A photo of my recog button/sweetheart charm:
http://einstein.georgetowncollege.ed...pins/pins.html

Would be great to see a pic of your pin! It may be an
"unofficial" sweetheart pin, recognition pin, etc. But take
a look at the website above...you might find it on the
"official" list.
