Since I am the orginator of this post, I must say that I didn't even bring in the quality over quantity. What I am getting at is all those programs we have with the number of members we DO have, we would be more known! How many chapters of Sigma do each and every one of Sigma's programs?! How many chapters of Sigma, work with Affiliate organizations, and how many chapters have Rhoers clubs, how many Grad chapters are giving out scholarships?! Doing one program a year isn't getting it!
Supporting smaller chapters are important too! Some sorors act like it is pulling teeth to do rhoad trips sometimes, but we want growth!

Once again about the about the comment quality over quantity, yes this is true, But there is power in numbers! The more numbers we get to recognize us, the more powerful we will be in in all aspects of the Sorority!

sometimes it just doesn't matter....

the undergrads in my area work their BUTTS off.

actually they may do more work with 2 or 3 people than other orgs do with 20 or 30 people.

but i think we need to do more publicity such as putting things in the local news paper, radio stations, and local television community calendars.

For you sorors you seem to be getting upset with the topic at hand, just squash it!!! Moderator should just remove it! I didn't mean to ruffle feathers and tick sorors off. But this topic is something to think about instead of being ignored! I won't post again!

Sorhor aeRhospace22,

I don't think that the sorhor's post is upsetting, however, I just think that she is stating how many of the undergraduates in her area are doing extremely well regardless of the size of their chapters. I must say that all of our chapters are not smalls and that goes for graduate as well as undergraduate. I think the greater problem is maybe many of these sorhors aren't advertising their programs to the fullest. Sorhor aeRhospace22 you seem to be new in this sorority and believe me when I say that we have come a very long way. I'm not making that statement lightly because when I pledged in the spring 83' your statement might have been more valid. It sounds like you need to attend the Boule and maybe some other events and really see our great sorority on another level. Stay strong!

Now you KNOW I have to follow Postitvely AKA on this comment....what would make you think a woman joined Delta Sigma Theta for anything OTHER THAN PUBLIC SERVICE!?

Now we ALL have those who FAIL to do the WORK of our sororities, but to imply that one would join AKA or DST solely for the purpose of "decorating the world" with our colors, is WAY OFF BASE, and calls for an apology.

I feel Sigma and Zeta women are just as willing for work for the common cause to serve the public as my Sorors or AKA's Sorors...numbers have little to do with it!

Soror, who is upset? I won't remove it or close it.

I have logged in late but I will reply with my own honest opinion to your topic. It is interesting.

Just wanted to let you know................

Out of all NPHC groups at the University of Miami, SGRho seems to be the most popular/visible groups on campus. Keep up the good work!

Check this out!!!

Mind you Im a neo....but when I told my dad I was crossing, he had the same response as most people. He was like you are doing what with who??? The catch is that my dad is an Alpha so I figured if nobody else knew...he would know who we were.

I also had to keep in mind that when he pledged there were no SGRhos on his yard. By the same token most people grow up with the AKA vs.Delta "syndrome" and its not because they are doing more work but its because of their loving rivalry.

As a result Zetas and SGRhos are kinda left in the background. I personally didnt know about us until I was challenged to do my research about our organization and then I fell in love with the richness that lies with the history of our org.

However, this lets us know that our work is no where near finished. I want people to know our organization because of their deeds and not because of stereotypes. I personally, grew up with the AKA/Delta stereotypes. Besides, I kinda like the close-knit family entity we have, I have a great appreciation for it

Interesting...

When I went over, we had to learn the basic information about the eight organizations (Iota hadn't joined yet, but we still knew about them) of the NPHC. That was part of the whole, "Respecting other Greeks/Demanding the same respect of other Greeks" thing... I thought everyone had to learn that kind of stuff, and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. has been in the Pan since 1937... I hope that people are forgetting part of their training, because if everyone is not trained that way, it is really sad.

When my mom learned that I was crossing SGRho, she was not even Greek, but she was really really happy and was always encouraging. After I crossed, she told me about her teacher who was a Sigma and was the nicest, classiest lady she ever met and how she always admired her beautiful appearance and demeanor. My mom never even went to college, but she knew Sigma Gamma Rho because of our wonderful Soror, who is still in the Southwestern Region holding it down.

That's why I do what I do (and look GOOOOOD doing it), to inspire someone else to become a part of this magnificent and true sisterhood. EVERYBODY has work to do, but if we work as much as we type, everyone can know the magnificence of Sigma Gamma Rho.

I'm a neo also, and I honestly like the fact that we are small. There's not as much drama with a smaller group and you get a chance to be very close to all of your sorors. If you come in with 30 other people it's hard to establish a tight relationship with all of them, I don't care what you do to get in. Plus, if you have 30+ some girls it USUALLY equals one thing and that's chaos. While other people looked at size I looked at quality and the SgRho's on my yard exemplified just that. Now if the question posed is, do we need more people in our org. to be well known, I say no, we are committed to service and I know that if we stay committed to what we stand for which is Greater Service, Greater Progress, then we will be as popular as the other orgs.

I had never heard of Sigma Gamma Rho until I went away to college. I use to see other greek liscense plates all the time. SGRHO wasn't established on my campus until my sophomore year. These ladies came on the yard doing their thing! They were always in the community, library, and just friendly young ladies. I had a class with one of the sorors and she never tried to recruit me or anyone she was just being herself. I did my research and feel in love with Sigma Gamma Rho. I knew this was the org for me! I have never met a shady SoRHOr and I have been a Sigma since 93! I am the only Sigma in my area but you can believe this sista repRHOsents!

Thank you Sorors for your bluetiful responses! I knew you would come through. As moderator, you have no idea how much my inbox stays full and I don't even have time to do this. I have been so busy this past month and more so this past week ending the school year. Most of you know what I am about. I have been so blessed these past 2 weeks by Sorors that I have met. I will be telling you all soon!!

Let me just state, that my sorority has reached its elite status do to the great service that we have provided to this nation since our founding on January 13, 1913. We put ourselves on the map, beginning with our participation in the Womans' Suffrage March in March of 1913. And up till the present day we continue to serve our community through our five point programmatic thrust. The leaders that our sorority has produced and the great deeds that we have done speaks for itself. It has nothing to do with the "rivalry" between us and the ladies of AKA. My sorority and her accomplishments stand alone. Our history is a part of African-American history as well as American history.

But at least we can say most of our members join to work for the sorority, not to decorate the world with their pink, green, crimson, and creme colors.

First, why the need for the insult? Are you a part of our organizations ? I think not. So how can you even make such a statement? As stated by my Soror Virtual Violet, we all have our members who join and don't do the work but such a comment in unvalidated as well as uncalled for. You are not qualified to speak on behalf or about Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. so please refrain from making such generalizations. Just as you are so confident that most of your sorority members joined to work, I am as equally sure that most my Sorors joined for the work. WHY - because of the great legacy that our sorority has built/continues to build in our communities.

P.S. You all joined to work in the community, not for popularity or notariaty, correct? If so, why worry about those who do not know you. The ones that do know you (i.e. the people you have helped in your service endeavors) are the only ones that matter.

Angry There is this little button called a PM.

Now when our soror died in a car crash, most of you posters who are ranting about your org did not even have the decency to drop by and leave a post of sympathy. Keep your AKA/DST tirades between you and the people who you feel insulted your org. It is called a PM.

All of our orgs have done magnificent things. This thread is about Sigma Gamma Rho. Show some maturity. If I responded to every idiot who misspoke about my org, I would spend months on some of these forums. (Do the names ENDROAD, who would just die before she became a Sigma and AKATUDE, who can't help it if post 1913 orgs are the dreck of creation, ring a bell?)

Really,
TRSimon
