Ok I just wanted to let you all know, I bought "The Pledge" the other day at the bookstore.....that book is 514 pages long. I read it in a day b/c it was so freakin good!!! I couldn't put it down. It was sad, but a really good read! I highly recommend this....

I just read Eating the Cheshire Cat and um, it has *more* than its share of dark moments! Plus, I'm not sure who would be more insulted--the Bama Tri Delts ot the Auburn Tri Delts!

I agree with you Carnation. That book was pretty dark....the whole finger issue kinda creeped me out, especially those first few chapters.

I haven't finished it yet, but I think the book is....interesting so far, if nothing else.

How the Grinch stole Christmas by Dr. Suess incorporates Sigma Kappa Ritual and I have heard some Sigma Phi Epsilon ritual as well.(So I've been told.) Dr. Suess was a Sig Ep, his wife was a Sigma Kappa and they worked on the cartoon version together.
Another Sigma Kappa movie is Mystic Pizza, a great movie about sisterhood. You would never know it was about Sigma Kappa unless you were a sigma kappa. The writer was a Sigma. I highly recommend seeing it if you havent already!

Barney was also created by a Sigma Kappa, however I do not recommend watching it for too long!

I am so going out and renting that book you guys were talking about!!!!

I'm surprised Ali hasn't mentioned this yet. She gave me this book at the end of last semester. I forget what it was called, but it was a series, kind of like Sweet Valley and stuff. But the sorority they all decided to "pledge" was Sigma Phi Sigma... It was for kids, and it didn't paint sororities in a bad light. The first book was about recruitment, and the next one was about pledging, but I haven't read it. It was very cheesy, though.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to add Poisoned Pins by Joan Hess. This is part of the hilarious Claire Malloy series about a college-town bookstore owner and her teenage daughter who solve mysteries, and this one is the murder of a sorority sister of "Kappa Theta Eta," which is next door to the Malloys.

Funny you should say that. I had just recently finish writing a manuscript (not a book yet, I have yet to find an agent or publisher) about four college students who were murdered at a fictitious university in Arkansas. The detectives assigned to investigate are a brother and sister duo learn that the victims were members of GLOs. Since the sister half of the duo is a sorority alum and hers could probably be next on the killer's hit list, they have to catch the killer before the body count increases. Don't worry, I painted a very true and positive portrait of GLOs (not like MTV). That's all I can tell you.

I am also working on three manuscripts in the series. I also trying to develop a mini series set in Russia after the fall of the Czar, again in the mystery genre. I am also considering mystery series taking place in Ancient Rome, Ancient Greece or Ancient Egypt.

Don't forget this self-published gem about fraternity life at George Washington University in the mid-1980s. I don't know if the hardcover book is published anymore but the book's contents are online at http://www.cc600.com/hk.htm .

Beach Music by Pat Conroy is a novel about growing up in the South during the sixties. Part of the book deals with Southern sororities and fraternities and the impact these groups had on the character's lives. It is one of my favorites.
