I'm the new alumnae relations advisor for my chapter, which has not had much contact with alums over the past few years, so I know how frustrating it is to get started. The chapter's webmasters and the alumnae relations coordinator have spent the past semester creating a website for the chapter's alumnae (if you want to take a look, click on the link in my signature). The site isn't completely finished yet, but it is getting there. They have posted the alumnae newsletter, announcements of upcoming events, a form for sending updated info to the chapter, and places for alumnae announcements. So far, we have gotten many positive responses about the site and quite a few alums have contacted our AR coordinator to give their new contact info. The website was also mentioned in the paper version of the newsletter that was sent in the hopes of drawing more alumnae to the site so they can see how easy it is to stay in touch. The AR coordinator also set up a Yahoo group for the chapter's alumnae, which will give us an easy way of contacting each other and the chapter. We've also asked that alums forward the emails from the chapter to other alums that they keep in contact with so that they can, in turn, contact the chapter and increase the number of email addresses we have (kind of like a chain letter that actually serves a purpose ).
