local mascots

Well, yes and no. We hosted Province Weekend last year and our t-shirts had an elephant (since we are the Crimson Tide) holding red roses. But as far as "officially" no, we don't have a mascot. I like the elephant though...

My college has just recently concluded our Greek Week this year, and Y was a part of the festivities (not much, but existant), asked to present a Greek god or goddess to represent us in the "Battle for Olympus." After much discussion and realizing that Apollo was an essential for Tau Kappa Epsilon, we settled on Polhymnia.

I always thought that our symbol was, aside from our crest, badge and red and white roses, the pan pipes. If you're talking mascot, well, I gave thought to Pan himself. Granted, his reputation is not the greatest, and that's the downside, but if we were to find anything to personify, we had a musician or Pan armed with pipes.

The college team is the Prairie Fire, but the unofficial symbol of the place, to some, has been one of the squirrel militia we seem to harbor on campus. I guess that might work for Psi Chapter.

I think that because we are professional, and not social, therefore we are not a member of the NPC, repeating someone else's mascot is really not a huge issue. Lots of things are repeated in several sororities. i agree, that a bird is maybe not the best choice, one b/c i think they are gross, but also b.c they are hard to find. there are not many stuffed animals that are cute birds. a swan would almost work, except that we would never be able to find anything with a swan on it, and they are not easily drawn, etc.

The best thing might be to just adopt a local mascot for your individual chapter, but i don't know if that has to be ok'd by nationals.

Hmph this is my second time trying to reply. Anyways . . .

I think it would be neat to have a mascot. This subject is being discussed on the ListServ at the moment so I thought I'd bring it back up here. I agree with someone on the listserve and think that a songbird such as "Robin "Red" Breast" would be cute! Just my $.02!

Love and Roses,
Jessica

I like the swan idea. Not that Zeta's mascot of a koala is any easier to find and or draw. At least, I think they are a koala. That's what my Zeta friend is always looking for.

A swan does sum us up nicely.
