I absolutely love that poem. The author (I think her name is sarah jones) performed that on Def Jam Poetry.

It was upsetting to find out it was banned. They ban that poem, but will keep "My Neck, My back, lick my "coochy" and my crack" in heavy rotation. What type of idiocy (I would like to use a four letter word, but I'm a lady and won't go there) is that?

Wow! She's really talented. Girlfriend needs to come out with a rap song based on this poem. She'd have guaranteed success. Isn't it funny that a positive poem like this would be banned. And your right, My Neck My Back is rockin on the radio like nobody's business.

I need to copy this poem and give it to some of my girls (ages 9-15) who think that the hootie mama, money, cash , Ho*s mentally is cute. What they see in the videos they want to imulate. I trying to break that it's hard. They can give me the lyrics to all JayZ's cds but can't tell me what was the significance of Bessie Coleman or Langston Hughes.

your revolution will not happen between these thighs
your revolution will not happen between these thighs

the real revolution
ain't about booty size
the Versaces you buys
or the Lexus you drives

and though we've lost Biggie Smalls
your Notorious revolution
will never allow you to lace no
lyrical douche in my bush

your revolution will not be you
killing me softly with Fugees
your revolution ain't gon' knock me up
without no ring and produce little future MCs
because that revolution will not happen between these thighs

your revolution
will not find me in the
backseat of a Jeep with LL
hard as hell
ya know, doin' it & doin' it & doin' it well
ya know, doin' it & doin' it & doin' it well

your revolution will not be you
smackin' it up, flippin' it, or rubbin' it down
nor will it take you downtown or humpin' around
because that revolution will not happen between these thighs

your revolution will not have me singin'
ain't no nigger like the one I got
your revolution will not be you
sending me for no drip drip VD shot

your revolution will not involve me feeling your nature rise
or helping you fantasize
because that revolution will not happen between these thighs
and no, my Jamaican brother, your revolution
will not make you feel boombastic and really fantastic
have you groping in the dark for that rubber wrapped in plastic

you will not be touching your lips to my triple dip of
french vanilla butter pecan chocolate deluxe
or having Akinyele's dream
a six-foot blowjob machine

you wanna subjugate your queen;
think I'ma put it in my mouth
just 'cause you made a few bucks
please brotha please!

your revolution will not be me tossing my weave
making believe I'm some caviar-eating, ghetto mafia clown
or me givin' up my behind just so I can get signed
or maybe have somebody else write my rhymes?
I'm Sarah Jones, not Foxy Brown

your revolution makes me wonder, where could we go
if we could drop the empty pursuit of props and the ego
we'd revolt back to our Roots, use a little Common Sense, on a Quest to make love De La Soul, no pretense...but

your revolution will not be you flexing your little sex and status
to express what you feel;
your revolution will not happen between these thighs
will not happen between these thighs
will not be you shaking and me faking between these thighs
because the revolution, that's right, I say the real revolution, you know the real revolution, when it finally comes, it's gon' be real.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the BUMP!!! I am really feeling this poem.

It's sad that not much has changed in the music industry or the way society views women. Radio stations are still playing the most degrading songs in heavy rotation. "Wait, the Whisper Song" is a prime example. I am tired of folks glorifying the Pimp/Hoe mentality... its literally killing our people.

Discogoddess is correct, we have to be aware of our response to misogynistic lyrics, and not condone our actions to dancing to and listening to such. I thought Ms. Jones poem was very much on point.

This is so relevant!!!!

I sent this poem to a young lady that attends college with me. She is considering quitting school to become a "full-time" video model . She has already appeared in the Cassidy (I'm a Hustler) video. And she is in the new Nelly one too. She thinks that she can "use what she's got, to get what she wants"!!! I told her to use her brain and get a degree!!!

CT4, I'm not up on FCC regs. Please do tell - why is she being censored? I don't see any of the words that they usually use as triggers for censoring.

As some of you may know, the incredible performance poet Sarah Jones (and I do mean incredible) is essentially being censored by the FCC for this poem she wrote and has performed across the country. Check out the poem, her web site which details her battle with the FCC, and let me know what you think.
