Hey you aren't alone bro. I just started chatting on this forum 2 days ago. I currently go to Slippery Rock PA and was accepted into the bonds last semester. We got our charter in '97 and won greek week ever since. Our chapter up here is the strongest and has the most numbers. 2 of our brothers right now hold regional positions. We are the most athletic and have the best grades.

PIKES were one of my favorite groups of guys in college. They're cute, sweet and trust me when I say they KNOW how to throw a party! Even now, 3 years out of school, they're still the ones I hang out with the most. They've always been there when I need them!

Pikes here at Nova have gone underground and refuse to do what they need to get back on campus. They have an insanely hard pledging program but in the end, they have what i believe is the most close brotherhood in that they do everything together. but also, that is mostly do to the fact that they believe that they are superior to everyone. they do pretty well in athletics, but lack the other elements of a true fraternity.

They are not on Campus yet due to a year long suspension. Actually they may be back, but I'm not sure, I graduated in December!
What I am sure of is that I don't agree with Pirate00. Pikes are not the most consistent chapter, but I know a few and they are good guys. They may not have been on campus for a year, but they still seem to have their things together compared to the majority of the other chapters.

I disagree strongly with the Sigma Chi from the University of North Florida who said that the Pikes have "a bad rap" in the state of Florida, and I have adressed him directly in another thread. Nationally, the Pikes have the largest average chapter size of any fraternity, and have held that honor for many years. That doesn't necessarily make us good guys but it is one measure of enduring strength. Yes, our chapter was suspended a year at UF, but they are back now and among the leaders. My chapter at FSU was gone for years, but we are back now and are again the largest, with the best grades and the intramural championship. I think we're good guys too. I'd say that if you look at all the fraternity chapters at all the schools in Florida, with the exception of USF the Pikes are among the leaders on every single campus.

That doesn't mean you don't have a bad rap. Your perception of your chapter isn't always the same as everyone elses. For example, 5-10 years ago, my house was the redneck fraternity. Now, we have 2 guys I would consider true rednecks, and maybe half a dozen more that can even stand country music. We're still thought of that way though. One girl told another girl I know, that you can't date Lambda Chi's, they smell like manure... I got a good laugh out of that one! You get the picture?

Hi Seminole Pike!
Though I only know 3 Pikes--they are all such awesome guys. Classy, sweet, funny--they are some of my best guy friends (from HS) along with some of the Pi Kapps! They are the ones that will also go out of their way to help me. At my HS, everybody loved them!

Some Pikes are good, some Pikes are bad.
My best friend became pregnant by a Pike and then he ran off. So for this, I'm not too fond of them. This is probably just a fluke though. He is more than likely just a jerk that happened to be a Pike.
The Pikes that I have met from UNA and UAH are great guys. They are very hospitable, kind and look out for the best interest of the people that they come in contact with. Overall, I like the Pikes!

We've all said that a few bad apples can ruin a chapters' reputation. It occurs to me that a few bad chapters can make an entire fraternity look bad as well.
I'm pretty sure that it was at the PIKE chapter at Colorado State where a couple of brothers hung a scarecrow on the back of their Homecoming Float shortly after the Matthew Shepherd murder in Wyoming. The people who found Shepherd, a gay University of Wyoming student, described him as looking like a scarecrow, hanging on a fence beside the road. CSU (Ft. Collins) and Wyoming (Laramie) are close together.
It was the remarkably insensitive work of a very small minority, but the entire chapter paid the price. There was also serious damage to the reputation of the sorority who worked with them on the float.
I can't believe that PIKE is a bad organization everywhere, but maybe it's time for their Nationals to take a close look at some of the chapters. That goes for any other National organization with this many chapters with perceived problems.
It's hard to lose chapters. We've closed a number of our problem ones in the past few years. In the long run, though, I believe it's better to have a smaller fraternity, "Dedicated to Excellence" (which is our goal), than a large organization which is partially out of control.
For whatever it's worth, the Pikes I knew in college were pretty good guys.

It was the Pikes at Colorado State, who may have gotten a raw deal due to the hysteria. For what it's worth, as you say, the Pikes still maintain a very large and strong chapter at CSU. I disagree that our fraternity "has so many problems". I think that perception is due more to some posts on these boards, and to the fact that the Pikes are very high-profile nationally. Also for your information, the Delts here are very good. They just won the intramural championship for 2001.

Hi 'NolePike,
Thank you for the good news about our Delt chapter down there.
My intent was/is to suggest that ALL organizations take a hard look at their chapters. I don't think I singled out PIKE -- and if it seems that way please know that it was my desire to use that situation as an unfortunate example and not to insinuate that the PIKE national organization is a bad one.
I do believe (to badly paraphrase an old cliche) that it is important to keep sniffing for smoke before a fire breaks out.
We at Delt have been in the unhappy position of having to close some of our oldest, largest and best known chapters because they were becomming a liability to our reputation and good name. In the long run, however, I believe that a smaller group of outstanding men/chapters may be to our benefit.
If you have a moment, e-mail me and I will share some thoughts on the CSU situation which need not be mentioned in this forum.
Fraternally,
DeltAlum

what up fellas! i dont know if anyone is still checking this thread but i just joined this thing two days ago... i'm a brother at the PIKA kappa nu chapter at UOP in california. i just completed my pledge period with a 28 man pledge class, 3 times bigger than any other fraternity pledge class. our house currently boasts 87 active members where the avg. for the other houses on campus lingers at around 40-45. in the last year we have won every competiton we have entered (i.e. intramurals, Dg's anchor splash, greek week), we maintain the highest avg. fraternity GPA on campus, in addition to having the most active social life. we're doing all we can to embody everything the brotherhood stands for. Its good to hear that Pike is thriving all over the nation.

PKA on my campus SIUC has a kinda mixed reputation. PKA Nationals came about 2 years ago and cleaned house (pulled lots of pins, gave expectations, etc.) and now they are doing pretty well. I personally have a lot of friends that are pikes here, i get along great with the guys, I think, could be mistaken, but they had the most community service hours last year for fraternities. Also, the parties are a blast.
