Not to play devil's advocate, but...
Pretty_girl is a common phrase and probably an even more common screen name. I know this phrase is typically assoiciated with the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha, but I know of people who use this phrase when refering to themselves and others, and these people know nothing of AKA. As a matter of fact, if you all can recall, a Delta prospect (who I believe is now a member of DST) went by the name prettygyrl.
I'm just trying to point out that maybe her name was not taken in the context in which it was meant. Has anyone considered that?

If you notice Guardian one none of the brothers are replying to you in here. I literally had to wait before I addressed you because I didn't want my anger to come off as ignorance. My Alpha side wants to curse you out! My christian side is begging me to show retsraint and drop knowledge. Please don't ask these questions in a public forum. PM a brother (not me) and ask for guidance. Also NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, EVER let the phrase " A-PHI" come out of your mouth.

Not that this should be necessary...
But my reply was not directed at Guardian...it was at Sorors! I didn't see what the big deal (problem) was with pretty_girl. I agree with Nubian. A lot of people use this to describe themselves.
I tell you....Now I have an entire thread!

I would have to agree with you Nubian One of my Soror's Licence Plate is personallized with Prtty Gryl And she has the Delta Sigma Theta L. Plate surrounding it. Some folks even asked her if she going to change it after she became a soror, and she stated why??? Delta's are pretty girls too, and she had that plate since she was a soph. in high school (7 YEARS) and although she is a Delta, she things of herself as being a Pretty Girl! I know that the Ladies of AKA Always use this term, but I guess I never thought that, that term was only used by Alpha Kappa Alpha!

Maybe it's a regional thing, or a yard thing, I do not know.
But where I came through no one but AKA's would have used that term. It just wasn't done, not by other sororities, and CERTAINLY not by interests.
I do not understand why an interest of AKA would come on the internet and use a handle that is almost always used by AKA's- at least on GC, delphi and blackplanet it is. And then be upset when people perceive it as disrespect? That is some mess right there!
Granted it is not as bold as if she used 08, or ivy, but once again maybe this is because of where I came through, it seems just as bad!
If she had come out and explained that it had some meaning to her, etc. and that in her area it was not an issue I might have even understood, but she didn't. She was just bold about it and came out to CRITICIZE another interest. wow. what happened to humility y'all?
I guess it died a quick death.

Yea...must be a yard thing
Yeah,,,,
it must be a yard thing....I certaintly wouldn't have thought that a person was a Soror just because she used the term 'pretty girl'. I guess this would have changed if it did have identifying marks behind such as '08 or 1908.
But hey...that's just me...I don't care who uses the term. Especially on here...I don't know who's real or not. I just go with the flow. Remember, people can be who they want to be on the internet.
And as far as the criticism.....As previously stated: hey, I didn't pledge Alpha Phi Alpha. What do I care? I just saw it as someone replying and reacting. Didn't see a problem there. Greeks did it...why can't non-greeks?
Like I said...this is either over my head or I'm just too doggone old to understand. I guess...I don't know. But I am interested in knowinng what other terms are seemingly offensive up there: pink, panther, frog, green, mouse, light-skinned, long-hair (just joking on the last two)? I'm very serious.... I can understand some terms though like: Ethel, Ivy, '08, 1908, 20 pearls.
Maybe we need a thread on this ..... All greeks...are there terms you only associate with your group or organization and would automatically think the peson is a soror or frat just because they used them? Would you be totally offended by an interest on GC using such?
Let me hear from you

From a non-greek
To go along with Happydays91, I think this "name" topic should be another thread, because I want to add my .02 cents
Isn't Pretty Girls, Inc. the name of an organization that was once a Kappa auxiliary? Back when I attended college (in the old days of '93 thru '97) they always reffered to themselves as the "pretty girls".
Hmmm, this topic seems like it will be interesting!
