And your husband is totally correct with this info. When Nas was featured in Vibe magazine a few months ago, he mentioned this info. In Jay-Z's song, "The Takeover," (I think) the lines that started this whole thing were, "You know who/did you know what/with you know who/but let's keep that between me and you." Nas read between the lines and Jay-Z was basically saying, "Ha ha, I banged your baby moms." That was Jay-Z's way of dangling the figurative "dirty condom" in Nas's face. When Nas confronted her about it, she said that it was true, but it happened a few years before she even met Nas. I dunno, but I think that Jay-Z could've come better than he did to include Nas's baby mama. But I guess that's how this battle is working and I'm sticking with Nas on this one!!!

|
Actually, Nas started the beef with Memphis Bleek. On Bleek's song "Whatchu Think of That," part of his hook was "I'ma ball til I fall / Whatchu think of that." Then on Nas's song "Nastradamus" Nas said "You wanna ball til you fall, I can help you with that /
You want beef? I could let a slug melt in your hat"
That's how everything started. Nas and Bleek were beefing and going back and forth. And, then Nas started involving Jay-Z in everything. Jay had stayed out of it. When he started beefing with Prodigy, Nas started talking about him too.
P. S. My boyfriend is a true hip-hop head. He has a Ph.D. in the subject and talking to him about it is like Hip-Hop 101. Can you tell?

I really don't think this started with NAS... this has been simmering since Biggie died and the whole NYC started running off at the mouth.
Also, I disagree that Jay was staying out of it, he had been on the radio many times talking slick stuff before, as well as on mixtapes, and to whomever would listen. I think Bleek was egged in to replying by the ROC in order to boost his status and put the spotlight on him because his album was not doing well at all.
Bleek had just come out, why would Nas be checking for him??
NAS! NAS! NAS! (hehehehe)

LOL, I don't own a t-shirt either soror. A lot of Jay-Z fans are on the Nas bandwagon, too. But, I never was a Jay-Z fan...I like his SONGS...which ONLY MEANS THAT HE HAS GREAT PRODUCTION. Now, I love "Takeover," ONLY because of the sampling of The Doors (I like The Doors). Nas isn't MTV's favorite rapper, which means that he's not doing the best as far as production and song writing. As far as lyrical substance, Nas runs a labrynth around Jigga. If you told Jay-Z to leave out the negative references to women and the other commercial stuff EVERY rapper raps about these days...he'd have a blank, hot track (void of lyrics).
BTW, Eminem DID murder him on his own s*!!!!!!

Nuff Respect to Nas...but J got him
I have to start off by saying I think NAS is on another level than Jay. Jay is a great pop rapper. Nas is a phenomenal ARTIST. Nas is way deeper and has more creative, meaningful, thought provoking songs. As of late, JZ has been coming out with a few songs of substance, but like I said, as far as creativity, thoughts, and depth...he is no where near Nas's level.
That said, I must admit, I think Jay smashed Nas on the DIS tip. Ether was hot. Banging beat, bangin flow, clever wordplay...he talked some good shit. Jays flow was no where near as complex, but he had more clever shit to say that was more than just shit talkin....it was TRUE. Nas talks about how J wanted to be on his classics...JZ has had better success and more consistent classics....so who won?
Nas calls JZ a faggot...whatever
JZ fucked his baby momma..OUCH...so who won?
He talks about Damon being equivelent to P-Ditty
cats like Damon's dance (like Dittys got hot dances)
and Damon is paid (like Puffy)...so where exactly is the Dis?
Nas says Eminem out flowed JZ on his own track....hey..this is Eminem...whiteboy or not...he is one of the Rawest lyricists out...I wouldn't be embarrased if he outflowed me...Eminem is COLD!
JZ said Nas's Bodyguard(Horse) OchyWally verses was better than his....True...who the hell is Horse? Nobody knows who this clown is....his rhymes are garbage. To get outflowed by a no-name wac MC is VERY EMBARRASSING....so who won here?
Nas talked about JZs one skeleton (Hawian Sophie)
JZ talked about Nas's MANY skeletons...The Firm bullshit....Escobar bullshit....Bravehearts bullshit (which was the only wack song on Stillmatic)...basically every album after Illmatic...so who won here?
Nas is my guy...but I gotta be real...he should keep doing his thing but he can't win trying to dis JZ....JZs got too much ammo

lawd...the language...
I'm gonna wash your mouth out with soap!!
Now, I'm feeling you on ALL of your points. You're right about Eminem being a HOT lyricist...but, you shouldn't be outSUNG or outRAPPED on your OWN SONG. Never put yourself on a track with others who are more talented than you are (which is why people joked Mya on the Moulan Rouge song with Pink and Christina---anyway).
Jay has talent, and Nas has a lot of high-larious skeletons in his closet. But, Jay has mastered the money game---he knows what sells and does it! Guess what, too----he could give a hothammsammich what any of us think about it.
Jigga Man never officially did a comeback to Ether...what the public THOUGHT was a comeback wasn't. I personally think he only SAID it wasn't a comeback because people were saying that they liked Ether better than the song Jigga did. Ether was just a breath of fresh air for a suffocated-over-JayZ-ed public. Either way, Stillmatic is doing pretty well and "One Mic" is a hot track. Regardless of the rapping bodyguard or ANYTHING else, Nas definitely holds his own...and is a veteran who doesn't need his beef with JayZ to help him with his sells or justify his status.
Forget all these young bucks----when's RAKIM coming back????

Actually that is untrue. Super Ugly was indeed the official comeback to Ether. It was marketed heavily as such by the Roc-A-Fella Camp. I am Boston, not even in NYC and I heard the buzz. The call-ins from the ROC camp, etc. all promising big things with SuperUgly. But, after, SuperUgly unexpectedly SUCKED big time, Jay recanted his "official" answer and instead now refers to it as a studio freestyle. Maybe only the NE got the full blast of the Roc-A-Fella push, but it was indeed marketed as the Ether comeback that was gonna crush Nas for good.
Also, I could go back to how Nas served Jay royally on Ether, but most people missed it cuz they weren't the no-brainer, one-liners that Jay throws. Nas put History and "bidness" out there, but dang, peeps keep missing it. Dang Nasir, why are so brilliant???
Oh yeah, I'm a big Nas fan
Rakim.....hmmm, there's this guy at the car wash...

Re: Re: lawd...the language...
That's exactly what I'm saying...he tried to recant the fact that it was a comeback AFTER it flopped---but the public doesn't believe that mess, we know it was SUPPOSED to be a comeback----because, like you said, they had advertised it and made a big deal about it as the "Super-Ugly-Jay Z-Comeback".
Now, WHATCHUGOTTASAYABOUTRAKIM?! Don't nobody better say nothing bad about Rakim. I know, I know----maybe one day he'll comeback (he's like 40 now, or something, though).

What did we miss?
Again, I feel and respect Nas over Jigga...
but I must be one of the few cats who think SuperUgly and the Takeover outdissed Nas. I am a TRUE hiphop fan and actually LISTEN to the lyrics. I believe people liked Ether better because the BEAT sounded better the SuperUgly or Takeover. But lyrically (content wise) Jay-Z smashed him (see my previous line for line analysis)
I think I got most of the stuff Nas was talkin about...but maybe I missed something. What exactly was Nas saying that most people "missed"? Put me on StraitBOS

Nas is "Anem?"...break it down for me
Maybe I'm getting old and loosing touch with the latest slang...but what does "anem" mean?
Nas is nice, and I like him better than Jay-Z.
I'm just giving J props because he DESTROYED Nas in their battle. One victory doesn't make you better than another MC and J is definetly not better.
Like I said, I don't care how many similies (metaphors don't use "like or as") Nas spits. No matter how much science he drops about "ether" and other stuff most cats don't know about. You will ALWAYS loose if you are just talkin shit. Nas talked some good shit. But most of it wasn't true.
Jay-Z wasn't a faggot when he was nuttin inside Nas' baby momma? Rockerfeller was a fag...ok. How many units is Ill Will Records selling with washed up (though respected) acts like MC Shan, Craig G, or Shante?....don't tell me those lame ass Bravehearts?) Surely Nas don't wanna go there...talkin about Record companies.
Nas was right...J wanted to be on every last ONE of Nas's classics....ONE clasic (well 2 now...counting STILL-matic). All Jays albums are classics. Jay may have got chased thru his projects. I supposed Nas never got chased in his life or got his lil ass whooped. Or if he got surrounded by his enemies alone he would just stand like the Braveheart he is....right. In the Bridge is over he talks about his Brother Jungle busting guns to get somebodies chain back...he never said he was bustin shit
AGAIN...what was Nas sayin that was so COLD and DEEP that he got Jay-Z....maybe I missed it. Read my line for line analysis and you be the judge
The only thing better about Ether was the BEAT
...and thats ALL 80% of cats listen to anyway
so if anyone can break it down to me....
Holla!!!!!!!!!
"Cuz my manz anem do their
research!!! Also, Virgos are intelligent people and have the power to withstand and
knock down no-brainer one-liners like the ones Jay-Z throws out. Does that clarify it
for you, APhiAce???"

I dare say you're older (or that much older) than I. Perhaps you're just not cool . "Anem"=and them. Hence, "because my manz anem do their research"=my boy Nas and them do their research. And, you're especially not cool with that foul mouth of yours...what's up with that?!
Now, you sound like Jigga's publicist--I see your points, though. For the sake of argument, Nas only got the best of Jay Z (not because of what he said) but because of what he did. He put out a hot album and proved his nay sayers wrong---many people are feeling Stillmatic more than Blueprint. I only listen to two songs on Blueprint..."Takeover" and "Renegade." I only listen to "Renegade" because of Eminem (anem...lol)...Jay Z's flow was awkward and weak for that beat and song...but like Jay said "the sun don't shine, the sun don't shine."
Who has seen the From Illmatic to Stillmatic Tour???

I have returned...
I'm not on the up and up about why they started this war, I do have an opinion to share.
NAS can flow no doubt. NAS has been around the rap industry a little while, also. However Jigga is a grown man (Young VITO voice of the young people). Jigga says that he plays for the team he owns. CAN YOU FEEL THAT! That is the difference between a man and a boy. NAS needs to sit his little young ___ down somewhere and stick to what he knows best, rapping! Jigga has been on his grind since the 80's when NAS was probably wearing Superfriend pajamas with a matching lunchbox.
Nas is like Iverson (player).
Hove is like Jordan (owner).
You tell me the difference.
Oh by the way... Hello lovely ladies of DST. I really miss talking to yall (especially a12deltanu94dst).
