And the Phi Sig flashing the sign that AOII and SK use. I feel like all three groups need to get together and come to an understanding. New signs all the way around if needed.
[Old lady voice] In my day and on my campus, most groups had signs. A couple sisters and I were constantly trying to figure out how to make a Sigma. It never occurred to us to do the heart/dove/triangle thing. Which I count as a serious fail on my part.
Pi Phi and Kappa were the only other groups that didn't have "go to" moves at the time.

Yeah, AOII tries to standardize ours. It should be easily distinguishable from the Sigma Kappa hand sign. The index fingers touch to make an A with the other fingers making the heart. It's supposed to be Alpha Love. You guys do a heart with the index fingers and thumbs then have the other fingers flared out like wings. Basically the opposite of ours.

Except for all the chapters that have the index fingers touch to form a triangle above the heart.

No one has a hand sign like that. Phi Sig apparently is supposed to make the heart with the index finger and thumbs with the other fingers together above making a pyramid. They get in trouble when they flair the fingers which makes it look like the SK hand sign.

Stolen from FB. Here's a pic of 4 SKs flashing both versions. The one on the left is doing what AOIIAngel described. The other two are doing what I described. eta: That chapter consistently does the signs on the right. I think the girls on the left just failed to connect.
eta: After doing some google image search for AOII hand sign I'm finding way more variety on the positioning of the fingers. Some flair, some close the fingers and rotate to emphasize the "A" part. Some only raise the index fingers for the "A" and use the rest of the fingers in the heart part.
None of it's that serious. Can't believe I just spent more than five minutes on this.

Yes, the finger horizontally across the open mouth (to symbolize a Theta) has been actively discouraged by Theta HQ.
Yes, it is well known that the ASL sign for vagina is the same as making a kite shape with the thumbs and index fingers. That sign seems to have fallen out of favor most places.
Now I'm seeing Thetas making a K, A, and Theta with their fingers, using both hands. I can't even describe it. It's like some crazy contortionist act.
It's dumb. Dumb. DUMB. All of it. (in my loudest old lady voice, for DrPhil's benefit).

Partway through my time in college, my chapter really wanted a sign, and found "shooting the arrow," which is just pointing your hands upwards diagonally. I'm about 95% certain it's supposed to go a certain direction, but I'm directionally challenged and never remember which. But, it's a pretty common thing to do, so you can find lots of celebrities "repping" Pi Phi.
For instance, here's Dean Winchester "shooting the arrow":

There's also some business about linking hands and forming wings, as well as "haloing" girls below you in a picture.

It wouldn't be hard for Luke Bryan - his wife's an ADPi, and he does have the song Sorority Girl!

Not sure what you mean, but ours is the Diamond, from 1851. I know that it's been used since the late 1960s.

While I agree that calling pledges babies is obnoxious, I think HQs need to take some of the diatribing they're doing on that and transfer it to this hand sign ridiculousness.

A popular Theta hand sign that I've seen is actually the ASL sign for vagina, and I don't the girls doing the sign are aware of that.
Theta
ASL
I don't mean to use one sorority as a specific example, but I kept seeing girls on my campus do it this year and it made me cringe every time.
