What happens to your new member / pledge pin when you're initiated?

We give our pledge pins back to the chapter so that they can give it to the next pledge class. I saves money and it is kind of neat because they are so old so it gives the pins some tradition. As far as Sigma Pi (my boyfriend is a sig pi) they keep them and turn them into a tie tack after initiation.

Well, from what I was told tonight, I was lent someone else's NM pin...so apparently the ones initiated in semesters before me got to keep theirs? I have no idea. I'll have to ask someone about it I guess...oh well.

I can't remember if I already replied to this so here goes...
I still have mine. There is a fraternity poster that we have and on it is a cadets uniform from norwich, where we were founded, with both the badge and new member button (not pin). ON a side note, i would love to wear a sorority's pledge pin as a tie tack

i got to keep mine, because mine was our colony pin. but i also have a pledge pin i was given from a very cool "adopted" big bro from another chapter. but our policy is that pledge pins are chapter property and have to be returned. yeah.

AOII's policy is the same - chapter property, and return when initiated. Quite a few chapters still have NM pins from when they were installed so they are even more special to continue sharing with our new sisters.

What do your GLO's do when someone in the pledge class loses their pledge pin though?

They have to pay to buy a new one (runs around $10)

While I cannot go into it, the New Associate Members in a way give thier buttons up. I do not agree with it but not for me to say!

All I know is that I have one of two sets of the Local that i started and International has the other set!

I donated them to the Chapter, but there were things going on I did not like so I took them back for safe keeping!

If you worked that hard and wanted to keep your Pledge or New Associate buton, I feel you should be able to keep them!

I for one, never want to give up anything of my under Grad. Time as I worked to hard to get them and respect them deeply!!!

Once again, they will go to the Chapter upon my Death as so stipulated in my will.

My chapter allows us to keep our pledge pins after we're initiated. Right now, it's next to my ribbons and quill in my pin box.

Our NM pin is designed to wear with our badge. I got really attached to my NM pin before I was initiated, and I wasn't going to part with it that easily!

We recycle them.
We turn them into the chapter and the new member class the next year uses them.

I think the turn them in for next class thing is a good idea for walkie talkies. Pledging is a busy time, it would be cool if we could get those.
