here is one for you

all the girls on my hall freshmen year ended up in the same sorority. but our friend did not recieve a bid........the next fall she went to the cob and still didnt make it, but I convinced her to rush a third time in formal recruitment that next spring and she was given a bid. sometimes things happen that prevent the right people from getting bids. she was not only a friend, I felt that she belonged...that she had great potential in being a sister....we just had to overcome some adversity with sisters. I think its a great that one of my best friends is now my sister, she is doing great in our chapter and has served on our executive council....I dont know what we would have done if she didnt come back....
so in my opinion, go for it, you never know what the reason was... and my advice to the chapters....go for quality not quantity!

I know! We weren't allowed to either! I used to have to keep like 20 watches in my room for other sisters!

We did not have COB at Elon, but I am seeing it first hand now as the recruitment advisor for Georgia State AOTT. This is my .02 on the issue--look at your grades from the semester you rushed. If you LOVED an organization that is known to have a higher GPA requirement than the GPA to rush, and your GPA was par to sub par, that may have been a reason you were cut. If your GPA is higher now, and you still LOVE that group, go through COB again without a DOUBT!! We all can have bad semesters and maybe that D in Chem really killed you and you had a 2.3, but you kicked ass next term and now have a 2.8--this will make a HUGE difference!! Just my .02 cents!

I've said this before, but it is worth repeating:

Girls get cut for RIDICULOUS reasons. We have about 1200 rushees every year.

If I rush a girl, she is supposed to give me a notecard with her name, group number, etc. If I forget to hand it to the computer chair, that woman no longer exists. I can guarantee that she won't be invited back.

Girls with similar names get mixed up all the time.

When we put names into the computer at 6:00am after rushing all day and discussing all night, we make mistakes.

We first have to allocate our invitations to legacies. We don't have that many at Illinois, but at some schools the chapters get more legacies coming through than they are allowed to take in their formal rush quota.

The point is that not getting an invitation does not mean a chapter doesn't like you. By all means, COB. We have definately extended bids to women who did not work out during formal rush, sometimes as soon as the following week.

I am a big supporter of giving it a second chance if it doesn't work out the first time.....there are so many reasons you can get cut from a house. Like it or not, there are always certain members who are more influential than others, particularly where rush is concerned....it is possible that you just might not have gotten paired with the right person. When I rushed my freshman year, a good friend of mine from high school and her older sister both rushed with me. Well, my friend got cut from Chi O so she preferenced Alpha Phi and Delta Gamma while I pref'd Chi O and Alpha Phi, and I am not sure who her sister pref'd. Anyway her sister and I both got bids from Chi O and she didn't get a bid at all! But she sucked it up and went through the next year, and her sister and I were thrilled to welcome her into the sisterhood on bid day. In fact, our reception of her was so exuberant that a campus photographer snapped a picture of the moment and we were on the cover of the Daily Kent Stater a few days later!!!!
