They learned the Greek alphabet when they were pledges but she couldn't tell it to you now. I've seen her pledge book. They had a page (like in my NM manual) that showed all the NPC badges/pins and a second page where they listed the groups on their campus with their local history. Meh. Being ignorant of the NPC is irrespective of pledge/NM. It's willful ignorance. You have the information, you just choose not to learn it.
Perhaps, but when we pledged for a semester rather than 6 weeks, sometimes you learned that extra stuff because the pledge educator needed stuff to fill in the time. That doesn't mean necessarily that the pledges paid attention or retained it. I remember going over that page and writing down the names of all the people that I knew who had pledged each one.

That being said, I agree with Sen and DrPhil. There is never a need to be rude just because you are unfamiliar with a group.

I remember my Little introducing me to a friend from another school and she was a Theta. I was like I never heard of it. I realized that I needed to find out more about the Greek system as a whole.
I had a similar experience. I don't think the version of Advantage I had (the very first edition, I was the first pledge class not to use Encounter) even had a list of the other NPCs. Also, there was no mention of the rule about being initiated into one NPC disqualifies you from ever pledging another. I remember one of my sisters getting snippy with me because I asked her when our chapter closed if we could join another sorority.

The first version of Advantage was awful. It had NO history, just all touchy feely journaling garbage.

I don't think you should be required to learn all the other groups, but EVERY group should have a list of all the fraternities/sororities in their conference somewhere in their pledge materials and it should be pointed out by the pledge educator. I do think you should be required to learn all the groups on your campus, simply in the name of social interaction and Greek unity. This used to be a lot easier when you had to go out and ask them all for signatures. It's a little difficult now that the pledges are cloistered.
