Funny story about that same visit. I knew I'd be in and out of the "on the floor" area so I dressed like I stated above. Full disclosure, I am about 5'0, 100 lbs and am routinely mistaken for 19. I was in the main hallway leading up to where chapters were having their Go Greek (first round parties.) I was chatting up the Greek Advisor's GA near where a group of PNMs had arrived and were waiting for their PXs to take them up to the rooms. A girl in the group turned to me and asked "Omg, I'm so nervous. How are you so calm?" I kindly remarked that I was calm because I haven't been a PNM in almost 10 years. She couldn't believe it.

You will help your cause a lot by 1-asking nicely 2-giving lots of notice and 3-being specific about what you want. A nice email note spelling out the theme and dress code for the actives and a guideline for alumnae who might be on the floor will do wonders. "The members will be wearing white shorts and blue shirts on Monday. If you are going to be volunteering on the recruitment floor, please wear complementary clothes, like white slacks or skirt and a blue top. Of course, if you're working in the basement, please just be comfortable and thank you for all you do!"

Mainly, it's not needed or appreciated by me! I'm the recruitment advisor and my issue is mainly coming from my counterpart in the chapter. She is being really picky about what the advisors/alumnae wear and making a mountain out of a nothing (not even big enough to be a molehill).

In the past, alumnae have been asked to wear nice jeans and a certain colored shirt for sisterhood round or said that the chapter members are wearing a cardigan and black dress pants, dress in a matching color scheme. The recruitment chair wants a very cohesive look from everybody in the room and doesn't quite get that an 80 year-old really shouldn't be dressing like an 18-23 year old. I really just wanted information about what other chapters do so I could have a little more info to work with when I talk with my advisee. Even though she has a million more things to be worried about then what a few advisors are wearing!

Obviously if there was a history of alumnae showing up in sweats and messy buns straight from the gym expecting to show up and serve refreshments to PNM's we should be concerned. However, since nothing like that has ever happened and I cannot imagine anybody doing that, I'm done worrying about it. Most of us have been getting dressed and *gasp* picking out our clothes long enough to be able to dress approrpiatly for recruitment.

*Also, sorry this is very rant-y. Better vent to strangers on the internet then tell my perfect, little, advisee what I really think of this issue.*

And DeltaBetaBaby, we had a consultant visiting from headquarters once make all of us who looked college-age stand in line like we were ready to pick up PNM's at the door. Then she wanted PNM's to talk to Alumnae. I was ready to have a heart attack. We would have had a hot-infraction-mess on our hands for that one.

We weren't allowed to have alumnae talk to PNM's, but as a young alumna, I was visible passing out beverages and things like that.
