My daughter attended 3 out of a possible 5 parties for skits yesterday. She is hanging in there with a good attitude. Pref is tonight, they can attend up to 2 parties. Invitations are issued at 4pm today. I'm not going to be able to get any work done until then, lol!

One rec girl went AXO and another DG. Still waiting on news about the others.
2 Gamma Phi Betas, a DG, Kappa, and an AOII!

I actually received a bid today after dropping out, but I will write a recruitment story to reveal how it went down and maybe give some advice to a PNM that has the same experience as me next year!

Yes, please share your recruitment story, but first... did you accept your bid?

My rec girl who was a legacy to my sorority preffed them but wasn't high enough on their bid list, I guess, to get a bid. So she got her 2nd choice. It's a real bummer that nowadays you can take a legacy to pref and not give them a bid. I'm tempted to write our Exec. Office and express my disapproval with that policy!

Is it possible that she may not actually be a legacy according to your chapter's definition? My sorority acknowledges granddaughters, however my good friend's does not.

She's a legacy under your sorority's definition of legacy? This is one I've never heard of happening. I've only ever heard the rule that if you are a legacy and attend a preference party you are REQUIRED to be on their first list. That's why legacies regularly get cut just before preference. Is it possible your rec girl is telling you she got her second choice because she doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings? I can't say that I know everyone's rules, but I've never heard anyone contradict this policy.

Every sorority has different rules. There are at least two groups, that do not require legacies to be at the top of the bid list. It does happen.
ETA: I'll leave names out.

My quilting buddy's daughter went AOII at OU.
I offered to write a rec -- mom said she didn't know if daughter was interested -- evidently she was! First-time Greek for their family.

Wow did not know there were sororities that would take a legacy to pref and not bid them, that is sad.
Still following up on my rec girls
But so far
1 did not get a bid (I think she SIP'd), 1 Pi Phi, 3 Gamma Phi's, 2 Delta Gammas, 1 AXO and 1 Kappa
can't wait to hear hithere's story!

Honestly, it's only sad because people assume that if you're a legacy you're in. If you have a legacy going through for these groups, alumnae need to know THEIR legacy policy and inform their legacy that being at pref isn't a sure thing for a bid. Chapters have a right to choose their own members. To those groups, they may feel they are giving the legacy every chance to shine before making their final decision.
Btw, I have a chapter sister that was a double legacy to one of these groups and did not receive a bid after listing them first on her bid card. She was a better fit in my chapter than in the other. She made a stellar AOII. I won't say she wasn't crushed, but she didn't know that she had a possibility of not getting a bid.

Oh believe me, the rec girl and her MOM (who the legacy was) knew it was NOT a guaranteed bid but, of course, the girls in the chapter certainly made her FEEL like she was in and was wanted and would be getting a bid. I'm sure the ones who knew her did want her in. She just wasn't high enough on the list, I get that. It just saddens me that that IS our legacy policy. I think chapters need to know who their legacies are and if they want them, they should decide by the 3rd round. It makes it more fair for the pnm's and other sororities to know that the legacy chapter is not going to take them. So they shouldn't be invited to pref! I knew the policy before last year when my DD went thru at an SEC school. Thank God my sorority released her after skit day but she has a pledge sister who did get invited to my sorority (and her mom's sorority) and ended up not getting a bid nor did she get her 2nd choice because they assumed she would get her legacy so she got her 3rd choice and pledged with my daughter. You can imagine neither she nor her mom were happy (especially if they didn't know) and I just don't think that needs to happen!
