Would it be inappropriate to wear a black dress as a PNM on Pref Day?

I wore a black dress to my pref night and I'll admit I felt a little bit uncomfortable in it because all of the other PMNs were in brightly colored dresses. I felt like I stuck out in a negative way as we waited outside the houses to go in, which did nothing for my already shaky confidence. Also, both chapters where I preffed wore black so at some points I felt like I was blending in too much with the sisters and not standing out, if that makes sense.

For the second round I wore a darling blue dress with red polka dots and a white Peter Pan collar (It was 1983 - don't judge). I didn't realize why all the sororities were looking at me strangely until I walked into the Gamma Phi Beta room.

They were wearing the same dress, only red with blue polka dots. A rushee asked me if I was the president and that was why I was dressed differently.

Some things are just meant to be.
