AI would not be the experience this student is seeking. If it happened (and this is something that can take several years to make happen, if at all), she would be part of an alumnae chapter. She wants to meet people her age.

OP, SMU has nearly 200 student organizations. Consider a co-ed service fraternity, attend the schools' activity fairs, and look at the school's website to get a sense of what organizations are offered. Good luck!

I'm sure NPC actives and alums can shed more light on this, but would it be possible to do an "alumnae initiation" to a chapter in your area, even if it's not at SMU specifically? It might be worth checking out!
No, no, no, no, no.

33girl is right. NPC sorority involvement is not replicated in any organizations that are not NPC, and this is also true of the NPHC, multicultural and service fraternities and sororities. They are not a swap for what you were originally thinking, but they can still offer a lot in terms of friendship, leadership, service, sense of place, etc. And so would joining clubs, the dance marathon committee (or whatever the SMU version of the huge campus charity event is) or the Young Democrats. Or whatever. I'm sure you'll find your place; the trick is to know it doesn't just land in your lap. You have to actually seek it out and make it a commitment. AND not quit because they aren't all your best friend in 5 minutes. This seems to be an issue with a lot of girls we meet here - it's a warning not a statement of your own personality. I'm sure you are bright enough and have worked very hard to get where you are so you understand that not everything in life is just handed to you.

And while she is very possibly a great candidate for AI at some point, I most certainly wouldn't direct her that way right now. OP, if you make friends with sorority women (and I mean real, lifelong friends, not girls you meet in class), maybe this is something you'd like to address at some point further on down the road. But it's not something for you to think about now. At All.
