Valentine’s Day: Absolutely amazing skit! It was hilarious and I genuinely laughed several times! I talked to probably twenty girls and was seated in the front! I felt really special at this house.

New Years: They also had a hilarious skit! It was so funny and creative. The girl I talked to seemed nice but our conversation was nothing special and pretty average.

For tomorrow I needed to select three sororities I wanted to return to for pref. Narrowing this down from eight to three was difficult for me, but after a lot of thinking I selected (in no particular order): Valentine’s Day, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving.
Yep... sounds like Bama to me!

Come on BammaGirl PNM...finish your story. Thanks for writing and posting your first rounds so quickly...makes for a good read. And please, pretty please let us know the identy of your pref invitations. I would love the whole key but I know not to get greedy.....
The scale/size of the new houses already built and in the process of being built on this campus is mind-boggling!

PREF (Day 7): Well Pref is finally here! It’s been a long week so far and I can’t wait for Bid Day! When I open my list I am overjoyed to find out I am invited back to my top three. The Rho Chi’s are not allowing us to talk all day today or have our phones ( although I sneakily shot my anxious mother a text telling her I got back my top choices). This day was boring and so long. My final impressions of the sororities were:

Thanksgiving: This had been consistently one of my favorite houses. I found pref here to be a little awkward as a girl I had never talked to before read me a letter she wrote to me and how much she wanted me to be a Thanksgiving. I thought it was strange and I had a hard time being serious on “serious” night, but I think that just my personality.

Labor Day: Pref at this house was set up beautifully. I again felt a little awkward with the seriousness of the party. I also was a little uncomfortable with some Bible passages being read (I’m not particularly religious) but overall it was a nice event.

Valentine’s Day: This was my last pref party. I was relieved to see the girl who I had met on the first day again. A song was sung and they gave us letters girls had written to us. We read them in silence and a lot of other PNM’s cried. Once again I felt a little awkward, after all we had only known these girls a week so I couldn’t muster up any tears. It was nice to see how special their sisterhood was, but I just couldn’t connect at the level some girls were.

As most of you can probably tell, pref round was not really for me. I feel out of place being so serious with girls I barely know and I much preferred the previous rounds. However, I couldn’t wait for Bid day. At this point I would have been extremely excited to be a new member of any of the sororities I had left, but I had to make some choices. I turned in my final list ranking the sororities as follows:

1. Valentine’s Day
2. Thanksgiving
3. Labor Day

Although I loved the candlelight, pretty dresses and formality of pref, I never felt like crying, ever! And they would always tell us to get our rushees crying...ain't no way I would ever do that.

Sometimes I think the crying has less to do with the emotional bonds the PNMs have formed (as OP has wisely noted, it is a mere week!) than the sheer exhaustion and stress they have experienced through the week. By the time you get to prefs, you're drained!

Looking back now, I'm pretty sure this was why I cried. Both parties were beautiful, but damn if I wanted to sleep!

The first time I went through recruitment as a sister, I was told to stay away from Susie Sister, because she would stomp on a non-crying sister's foot!

Bid Day:
My friends from my Rho Chi group and all of the other PNM’s were all gathered in the stadium and forced to sit on our bids while the Rho Chi’s revealed what sororities they were in. Mine were Memorial Day, Fat Tuesday, and New Years; so I knew I wasn’t going to be sisters with any of them. As the minutes dragged on we were finally allowed to rip open our envelopes and see our bids. At that moment I couldn’t have been more excited to be a new member of…

I thought Valentine's day might be Alpha Chi Omega. My daughter is a member of that chapter. I hope you had a wonderful year. I understand the chapter had a great year as far as grades, awards, and recognitions, ...and of course a wonderful pledge class!

Do you mind to share your other preference choices with us?

I had by far the best year of my life. And yes our pledge class and chapter won top in grades! An accomplishment I'm truly proud to be a part of! Thanksgiving was Pi Phi and Labor Day was Alpha Gam! Both awesome chapters as well!

And thanks to everyone who read and offered congratulations! I absolutely love being a part of Alpha Chi!

Congrats! When you mentioned grades, I thought Christmas might be Alpha Chi.

I can't wait to see the progress on the rebuild! I might to try to attend the dedication ceremony just for the experience.
