College life is about experiences.
I believe that everyone should live in house for at least one year.
Sorry to be Debi Downer. However, let's not sugar coat it. Living in the house is not rainbows and roses.
Yes, you will get to be closer to your sisters and everything is there for you.
There are down sides to it.
- Privacy - sometimes I just wanted to watch TV alone or crawl in bed without feeling like everyone was watching me.
- When one girl gets sick on the sleeping porch everyone gets sick. I don't care if make them sleep on the day bed in the room, everyone gets sick.
- SNORING - Despite the sleeping porch being quiet, some girls snore. And you WILL hear them. One girl talked in her sleep.
- DRAMA - Everything goes on there; the good, the bad and everything in between. It can be a bit much at times. Find a way to get of there. Go to a friends.
- GUYS - Everyone has different rules on them. Back in the day, they were not allowed upstairs or only on move in and move out days. Some have visitation hours. I had several guy friends and it was weird to have them sit in the formal foyer.
- DISTRACTIONS - I found that I studied best away from the house. It was too easy for me to go hang out with my sisters. My favorite was the Med School library; 24 hours and quiet.
- ALCOHOL - Don't even think about bringing it in the house even if you are 21. Fraternity guys can get away with it but not sorority women. Some people have problem with this.
When I was there, our kitchen was closed on the weekend. No kitchenettes on the floors like there is now. We went out for food on the weekend.
For me, I always thought it was odd walking down stairs from my bed to my room to get my clothes and get ready.
However, to this day, I can't not sleep in the same place that I studied. I only sleep and dress in my room. I think that I got that from living in the house.
