I'm sure many of us don't know the documented history of the dangers of adults doing this and the tragedy that could result. The best thing we can do is educate our chapters and make them aware before it happens to someone else. My husband, who is a Phi Gam grad brother and used to serve on his chapter's advisory board, is incredibly sad about this incident. Interestingly, he commented that, while sledding a few winters ago, he ran and hopped stomach first onto a sled, the way we always did as kids. He felt a lot of force on his neck on impact with the snow, and could totally see that a similar action with a slip and slide-like set up could cause such a serious injury.

I second that motion.

Does anyone else recall the discussions on GC about drinking lots (and lots and lots) of water? Of milk? Many people had no idea of the dangers.
"Slip and slide" may, in its own way, be a similar thing: documented dangers, happens fairly rarely, but when the damage is done it can be devastating.

Idle questions: Are some GLO HQs taking note of this slip and slide news and passing the word to chapters and advisers? How about schools' Greek life offices / administrators?

Yes, pledges drinking gallons of water has been done for a few generations however water poisoning did not receive a great deal of attention until the 1990s.

That does not stop chapters from doing it and other hazing activities.
